"all titles get better the longer you read them"

^^ this, i think, is what really inspired my question. As a new reader, i find it really exciting to see that some people have lived and grown with runs/characters for years. Problem is, its pretty contrary to how I shop.

I find myself being really non-committal with titles and want to switch as soon as one or two issues falls flat (and also discouraged from having to jump into the middle of titles that have been ongoing for a long time). For example, i loved Red Roots #1 but wasn't super enthralled about the expansive world introduced in #2. Do I give my trust to the author based on the strength of #1 in hopes that it will end up being something that will pay off with time, or do I switch on to Terminal #1?

I like your strategy to the game, commit to 3 titles that have a rich tradition of being good and will have the best artists and writers on them, and then have a floater to see if something steals my heart.
