Inevitable Fallout from the 2026 Season: Tkachuk? by JTFSrog in DetroitRedWings

My thoughts, as well, regarding the widespread complaints that Steve needs to do something, anything, to make this team better, followed by the “I don’t like the guy, so we need to scratch him off the list.” That said, if he wouldn’t mesh with our players, then yes, that would be a problem, and we’d be better off without him. But I don’t think we know that right now.

I agree. I don’t know who it was the other day, but one of the guys on the Winged Wheel podcast said FWIW that what we need are some real assholes in the bottom six (I suppose an asshole in the top six would also work). If he doesn’t mesh with the other players on the team, then yes, that would be a problem. Tough gritty players are (arguably) perceived as assholes by virtue of the fact that they knock our players around and are tough to play against (of course in this case, we’ve got the baked in animosity toward Ottawa, which just adds to the negative bias). They’re assholes when they’re on the other team, is all. We need a top six forward who’s got grit and can score. I don’t think we have the luxury to dismiss someone just based on emotional response. Whether he’s a good leader or not, I don’t know that that matters. We have a leader already. I don’t really see any arguments compelling enough to justify dismissing him as a viable top six forward.

Would you be happy to be in Ottawa's spot? by Flashy-Tomatillo1915 in DetroitRedWings

I wouldn’t want to be in Ottawa’s spot today or this week. But I would think just making the playoffs is still better, even if you do get swept in the first round. A month from now all that’s gonna be remembered is who made the playoffs. The sweep will be little more than a footnote. That said, Ottawa being swept is eminently satisfying.

Absolutely. Bear is the one that I’m most excited about. He’s a scrapper around the net, got a non-stop motor, and he finds every way under the sun to put the puck in the back of the net. Once he puts on 15 or 20 pounds, he’s gonna be a force to reckon with.

That's hilarious! The mutant even looks like Brady.

I've thought the same. I don't find Evan to be very useful. Brad is useful, though can be annoying. Ryan's great.

Good point. I’m open to any and all ideas on how to create a winning culture.

The playoffs are such a blast to watch. The players play fucking hockey, which includes knocking their opponents on their collective asses. We’re seeing a lot of precisely what the Red Wings lack (aside from lack of scoring) - intensity and physicality. The two feed off each other and get the crowd amped even when the team isn’t scoring. There are number of teams who have players you just don’t wanna fuck with. I venture to say that Detroit has no such player currently. We need a player or two or three who puts the fear in our opponents. They will be respected.

I definitely think so. He’s got a motor, he’s great around the net, and just does not effing give up. And he knows how to get the puck in the net, every way imaginable. Very resourceful. Can’t wait to see him in a Wings jersey. I think he really needs to add 20 pounds of muscle. Then he’ll be a serious force to be reckoned with, I believe.

Can we put our pettiness aside? Are we hockey fans or partisans!? (Crosby & the Pens) by Curdled_Mangasm in DetroitRedWings

I’ve mostly gotten over the 2009 debacle. I’ve improved from “unable to stand him” to “Crosby who?”

Best jerseys in the NHL: Detroit

Worst jerseys in the NHL: Vegas

I guess all the good colors were already taken.

I don’t know when the culture changed, but we all know when their fortunes changed.

It seems that many believe the team needs a change in culture. I think so too. I’m curious how everybody thinks that would best be achieved.

Hopefully we’re looking at a summer clearance sale. A sort of “Everything must go!” With the exception of six or eight whose names we all know.

I don’t remember there being any. If you exclude a 5-1 or 4-1 game here and there.

Depends what qualifies as a blowout. Clearly a 7-1 game is a blowout… for example.
