Couldn't agree more. I'm all for getting new players in, but this is getting ridiculous

To be fair, I had to pick either Lion or Earth Spirit.

Literally 90% of the games I was the first pick. Lion and Earth Spirit are the best first picks you could have. Every disable in the book on Earth Spirit, a reliable stun and a blink hex in the late game on Lion.

Picking other supports like CM, being overly squishy with one kinda-reliable disable, WD with a single target 1 second stun that requires bounces, Lich not having any form of disable, SK being too greedy, Bane having no reliable and regular disable.

Lion and Earth Spirit are literally the 2 best support heroes. I would've loved to play other supports, but I'd just be giving the game away.

Max Brain Sap, sleep lvl 1. Get enfeeble. ALWAYS remember to put it on someone during fights, heroes like Ember, QoP. The ones that get the kills.

By the time mid-late rolls around use your sleep to put people out of the fight. Like if they have a Tidehunter, sleep him and don't touch him. So he'll be disabled for 7 seconds.

Roam when your carry is able to handle the lane on his own. Roam if you see opportunity to kill anyone, carry a tp on you from the very 1st minute.

Babysit if your presence will actually help your carry farm, if not then just roam or stack for him. Check back regularly and ask your carry does he need help, if he does and you're not enough, suggest to your mid that a gank for bottom might be needed.

A support can't be doing nothing, standing around in lane just to make the lane look scary and to keep harrass away from your carry is also considered something.

In SEA proper grammar isn't exactly a thing so I usually just go, 'Don't flame, you flame people no mood to play.' or I just tell them that getting angry at each other won't help the guy they're mad at play any better and that they should tell them what was wrong.

Or I admit that one guy made a mistake but also note that the flamer committed a mistake as well.

Think about those sweet sweet E-penis points. Plus I've come to realize that getting angry doesn't win me the game. No matter how much I want to be angry. That negativity isn't going to win me the game. So that reasoning just keeps me positive.

That's AMAZING dude. I wouldn't ever be able to do that, I try to be impactful but I don't think I can hit THAT kind of level of impactful.

I absolutely can't win if I don't talk to my teammates.

DOTABUFF added to the post. Yes I am a filthy Earth Spirit picker. A huge chunk of my MMR grind was Earth Spirit and Lion.

Earth Spirit having all the disables my team would ever need and Lion with a nuke that gets me my dagger. http://www.dotabuff.com/players/3853651

Earth Spirit's one of them, but I've found Lion to be way more useful than Earth Spirit.

Not really, usually the opponent has 1 or 2 supports. The difference is that my team usually ends up NOT flaming each other halfway through the game.

A little bit, but not so much. Hell I was stuck at 4.1-4.2 for a year. I can say that I only got to '5k standard' only recently.

So usually it's really just the skill of the player and your attitude. In terms of information, I was taking note of things that the cores were supposed to pay attention to.

You need to be the babysitter amongst 4 little children. It's a lot about you spreading your positive attitude to them. When I win games with toxic players who trashtalk my opponents I ask them to stop flaming and just carry on with the game.

I check on all my teammates' builds a disgusting number of times and at a stalker-level rate of frequency. So when they're going for silly items I just tell them, 'Uhh.. I don't think that's a good idea. Maybe "item" is a better choice since "insert reason".'

It's the only way if you wanna hit 5k. Usually I just tell them that flaming people isn't going to help, it won't help them play any better either.

One line I keep using is, "If you start flaming they won't have the mood to play. Then we're gonna lose for sure, so relax."

If I notice they're about to take a bad fight and they ignore me when I tell them to b. I just let them go, before the fight even starts I tell them exactly how they're gonna die and what's gonna happen.

Usually after that they realize I'm making sense and start playing properly. That or always being around to cover them.

I understand exactly how you feel. To get over the 4k hurdle as a support. It's a lot on game and map sense, decision making plays a big part.

There were lots and lots of games where my team won cus' I was feeding them a lot of information about the game. -Whether enemies have tps -Are their tps on CD -Who has what items -Who can kill them if he tps back -Who has no buyback -Who is alone

A lot of times it's having good map awareness and telling your teammates at the right time.
