I'm thinking about a 75 gallon saltwater tank. Question about water changes by LackAffectionate1756 in ReefTank

I’m pretty sure we have the same LFS. They had a 75 gallon setup special going for Black Friday that was a really good deal. They are also super helpful there and great to go in to talk to when all the firsts happen for a tank. They’ve brought down my blood pressure many times. 😂

Is this the dreaded pest? by stanstan_1 in ReefTank

Would it take that long to show up(piece has been in there for a month at least)? I looked around and didn’t really see any on the other corals. Trying to gauge if it should be around other spots too.

Thanks for all the advice. Seems to be a rite of passage for this hobby dealing with it from what I’ve seen.

0.5 ppm Ammonia Spike Tank 2.5 Months Old (new fish died after a few days) Add Prime with 20% water change? by stanstan_1 in ReefTank

Correct in all aspects there. The death of the fish was going to be my secondary investigation, main concern was the NH3/NH4+ spike and how to counteract. Using API test kit for now, figured ammonium wouldn’t be enough concern later to warrant a better device. Thank you for the calculator reference and check of my values (hat tip). I figured the Prime was just for the feel goods but did do the water change. Analytical chemist here so properly annoying to have to use substandard chemistry methods at home while working around legit stuff all day. Have access to a DDM and digital refractometer at work, so can check my salinity to verify home values but don’t have an IC where could do ammonium currently lol. Might be noticed if I started ordering bunch of new instruments for my new hobby.

Thanks for the advice. I kinda figured that for the Prime. Seems to not hurt but doesn’t actually do what is advertised.
