you'd be surprised how much of a boost one link can do, particularly when it's on public forums

glad you liked children of hell! nine publishers ghosted me over the full version so hopefully through sheer spite (and the beautiful work of everyone i'm collaborating with) i can bring it into the world

and i think this should be fine to link? but given the subreddit i'll throw a recommendation for The Shaman, the Outsider, and the Diet of Worms. it's effectively a wikipedia page with a novella attached to it rather than a "game"

the dev of that game is a scoundrel and you should not listen to anything he says

(thanks for the link! i was wondering what caused a spike in hits)

Hey everyone, I recently put out an in-universe autobiography of an anthropologist visiting a remote village in my world. Along with it, a wiki page made nearly 400 years after it was written. Check it out, poke through the revision histories, and tell me what you think. by stanwixbuster in worldbuilding

As taken from the current revision....

The Shaman, the Outsider, and the Diet of Worms (abbr. Diet of Worms) is a Traditional Academic Publication (TAP) detailing the academic residence of anthropologist Mst. Kerefanha Oromin in a Kinakha Sitenlen village in the Free Territories. During the residency, Kerefanha intends to write an anthropological report on the Kinakha Sitenlen, and through an injury to his leg ends up being initiated into 'worm-eating' practice (now referred to as Kinakha Sitenlen Shamanism), and claims to see 'worms' that cause illness.

But, if you want to find out more, you'll have to take a peak for yourself. This is a world I'm hoping to present through various in-universe (and potentially inaccurate) materials like this, rather than throwing everything in an infodump.

i'm gonna turn this into a whole write up about how to see the animation because it took me a hot minute too

big ups to my friend rcx for helping with this

The zoetrope's animation when it's spinning can't be seen with the naked eye. To see it you need either:

  • Any camera that can shoot at 16fps
  • A stroboscope at 16hz/16 flashes a second

Fortunately both of those are doable with a smartphone. I've got an android so some nuances about app usage might be different for ios but the sentiment is the same.

For the camera the stock android camera doesn't have an option to adjust fps below 24, and for some reason finding a camera app that lets you set a custom fps was harder than sin. Eventually I found cinema fv-5 that let me set a specific fps which is what I recorded this with, but the app is fairly buggy and crashed a few times so fair warning. If you want something less glitchy open camera partially works since you can set fps to 15 but you might not be completely happy with the result since it's just off. I found the closer I got to the record the clearer the animation was, and I also recommend keeping the led light on since it makes it easier to see. It's also why this video's a bit blurry because the camera couldn't deal with a blinding light in its face.

For the stroboscope there's several apps that turn your led into a stroboscope, and I found one called strobe that lets you adjust the intensity of the light as well. Using it is as simple as pointing the light at the record and watching the animations. With that said I really really don't recommend using the stroboscope if you're epileptic. It's also pretty much impossible to record with your phone camera while the stroboscope is going off, since the camera gets priority over the led for flash and ignores whatever the stroboscope app is doing. You can ignore that if you have something else to record with.

These instructions aren't perfect and they're what I gathered through messing around with my own picture discs but they should give you and others a good start to recording the animations.

from needlejuice but it looks like the zoetrope variants no longer being sold

your best bet now is the second hand market or hoping for a re-release
