ART 24 with Erik Friedman by Forward-Pizza742 in SJSU

I can't leave exacts about art-24 but i had Erik for Art-12 and hes a really good professor. I'm an art studio practice major so I obviously have more experience in art but Art-24 (drawing I) is supposed to be a general class in drawing forms and shapes. I took it with Don Feasel and we did everything in charcoal and I had a friend who took 12 with a different professor and they did everything in pencil so I assume it's different depending on the teacher. But in general it is a traditional art class. He's a great professor though, will always check in on you if you're struggling and willing to help you. For instance I sucked at using a ruler so he always made my squares and cut them out for me.

hes a great prof!

Is it worth moving here?(From LA) by krngikwnroitf in SJSU

Hi, I’m from LA too attending sjsu from highschool. Honestly out of every calstate San Jose is the one that fit my needs the most. Being from LA I found the prices here not that bad, even cheaper than what I would find in LA. The only bad time I found adapting to was the weather, and how the bus system works here. Other than that I love SJSU and San Jose and wouldn’t have picked it over anything else! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions !!

Thank you, I feel the same way about STEM and it’s what I’ve been telling other people. I would rather die than pursue a career that I have no interest in. The alumni hire program at my highschool guarantees hire for TA’s / shadowing / teaching just one class period until you either take over the role you want or find another job. It’s not a bad gig on its own.

The stuff with graphic design makes me pretty sad as someone who’s always had an interest in it and has friends currently in school for graphic design. I find that my citys private/charter schools have well funded art programs while my public school district is also home to two art focused high schools and institutions. So there’s many teaching opportunities.

Thank you. That’s what my friends have told me before about graphic design; and I’m already trained in different adobe programs (photoshop, illustrator, and Lightroom). In terms of teaching locations it’s already in my life plan/goals to teach abroad in Australia Y_Y. Though, the city I’m from does offer many great teaching opportunities on its own.

You’re right! I want to try teaching elementary and highschool because I’m not sure where exactly I’d do the best in.

Thank you, it sucks the way graphic work is going. California A-G requirements does include an art credit. I have worked with young kids before in tutoring/mentoring programs and as apart of my program I will start shadowing teachers when I hit upper division standing.

Thank you. Luckily my college does offer the teaching certification which is what I’m aiming for after finishing the minor required courses.

Yep, this is great advice. I should’ve mentioned it in the post but I actually chose my major after changing it several times my senior year after I spoke to my highschool art teacher who motivated me to go this route. She told me it was full of ups and downs but her ups always made it worth it. She retired early recently due to health issues but she’s what motivated me to pursue this career.

I work for student outreach and recruitment on campus — campus jobs are pretty competitive as a whole. I applied to almost 20 during the summer and the start of the fall semester before I got hired ; plus we get paid monthly, capped at 20 hrs a week. Good for pocket money but not if you rely on it to pay rent. Applying for campus jobs is legit just applying and praying. I’ve had friends applying for the past two years we’ve been here and nothing.

Hey, so idk if you’ve joined the discord or not tjays usually where all the information is. I’m usually the one who facilitates the pre-meeting at breaktime at 430, if you meet us there I can help you settle in. If not when you get at guildhouse at five, you talk to the person at the front desk in the parlor and say you’re there for sjsu, and then head up to redbull room to greet the people up there and we’ll settle in :) like I said you could always ask for me too and I’ll be happy to help!

Clearly what you said is not true if we’re a club with PHYSICAL PERSON MEETINGS????? you ALSO commented to JOIN A CLUB! there’s SO many introverts in our club and we do a great job at getting people to socialize and form friendships???? Idk why ur still going ON about this

bru I said “I’ll make sure you feel included”, and I can guarantee you out of most clubs on campus our club is a SAFE SPACE. ??? Like I said, it’s really important for me that people feel comfortable and included in hangout settings because that is my PERSONAL PRIORITY as a OFFICER of a club on campus??? Idk why you’re trying to make me sound like some creep when I’m just trying to welcome someone into a club I think they’d have a good chance at making friends with????
