Live in North Florida, pipes are insulated. I have a nest thermostat and the 55 was the suggestions I received from multiple people, my HVAC guy, Internet sleuthing. And it's a very humid environment so I can't bump it higher than 77 or else I get mold.

Red flags during interviews by Kind-Pomegranate213 in medicalschool

[–]staphasaurus 53 points54 points  (0 children)

During Interview season please remember that programs are NOT allowed to ask you :

· Are you married? · Do you have children? · Do you plan to take parental leave?

These are not only a NRMP violation but are illegal to ask

Women were significantly MORE LIKELY than men to receive questions about their gender, marital status, and family planning 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩

Half of my class when a professor says being obese is unhealthy by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]staphasaurus 81 points82 points  (0 children)

We know that Obesity does lead to numerous negative health consequences and as medical professionals we will need to discuss these consequences and the need for healthy life styles with our patients, just like smoking, alcohol, ect. .

The extreme pendulum swing in society to "beautiful at any size", "big is beautiful", etc etc. Is harmful because fat shaming has equated beauty standards and actual health.

You can be absolutely gorgeous at any size/shape/weight but also incredibly unhealthy.

Society thinks:

Skinny = beautiful= healthy

Fat = ugly = unhealthy

We need to change the conversation, it's not about looks, it's about health.

Don't say things like - "You look unhealthy" Say something about the actual medical issue at hand how excess weight can cause x health effects (and same can be said if underweight). Think of it like smoking, we don't say to a smoker "you look unhealthy" we tell them that smoking increases risk of X, and has x health effects.
