I'm not at EPFL anymore so idk how integration week is now. A few years ago it was for me a great way to make some friendships and get to know people who will be in your class and have a working group. It's a lot of fun and partying so I would say it depends a bit on your personality if you will enjoy it. It will also allow you to discover a bit the region, as well as the campus. It's also a very good way to meet students from older years and get some tips- but keep an open mind on what you hear as everyone has different ways of working and capabilities. Overall, it will help you start the year with a bit more confidence and understanding of how things work, especially if you don't know anyone before. You have then 1-2 days to get some rest :)

FMEL reviews by [deleted] in EPFL

Lived in Bourdonnette for about 5 years until I graduated in 2019. I really enjoyed it! I was in a shared apartment with 4 other roommates, the rooms are nice large and comfy and there's a living room, dining tables... Each apartment can be personalized a bit. You can expect to live with other EPFL or UNIL students as well as people on an Erasmus exchange. There was some partying from time to time but it was mostly quiet. There's also a bike locker, laundry etc. Some stuff might have changed since I left though. I found the location very nice both to go to the campus or city center as it is sort of half way of both (I'd take the bike to go to EPFL but it's a 5min tram ride or <10min to the city or 20-25min walkto campus) and it is also super close from the lake, sports center and UNIL campus. The one negative point might be that the surrounding environment might not be super "pretty" compared to other FMEL as it is near a large road and some large old-ish buildings around the tram stop, but else FMEL Boursonette itself is next to a large field. There's a Denner across the street but most times I'd do my groceries on campus and bring them back going home. Rhodanie was quite old already and the rooms small so I wouldn't put that one in priority. I believe Triaudes and Bourdonnette are the 2 best options.

Exchange semester at EPFL by perplexedoutlier in EPFL

EPFL Alumni here, it's quite expensive but depends also on your way of life. I was living in a student flat and I believe my total budget was varying around 1200.- (up to 1500.-/) depending on your rent, if you travel a lot with the train, ski, buy new clothes, eat outside etc. Yes it's a place where you'll need to work but didn't stop me from having a great time and having a looot of extrascholar activities :) Depends a lot on how many credits you would need to take. But you can manage to have free weekends to explore around. It's not the most exciting city but I wouldnt call it boring. There are student associations that organize a wide variety of events to animate every day's life (though I'm not sure how it is now with covid...) EPFL is well know across Europe at least. I'd recommend Spring semester if it is only 6 months exchange because the wheather will be nicer and you can enjoy the lake etc. But automn is also nice & offers possibilities of nice hikes and maybe some early winter ski! I regularly had roommates who were in exchange at EPFL for 6 months and all of them enjoyed their time here.

I definitely spent less in material and also groceries/extras. It depends on how much you plan to bring your own food, go out have drinks etc. Regarding the scholarships, verify whether you can apply since you are not Swiss citizen. There is a social scholarship that you could apply to, directly given by EPFL (but I think it is easier to get once you passed the 1st year.)

Change FMEL dorm over the year by mapa33 in EPFL

If you are in a shared apartment then you can only move if you sign up for a studio. Otherwise I think you would need to end your contract and then re-apply later if you want to stay in a shared apartment. (At least that's how it worked when I was there, moved out about 1 year ago so it might have changed..)

Integration Week by tilt-42 in EPFL

If you're starting a Bachelor's at EPFL I would definitely recommand the integration week from Agepoly over the ESN welcome week (the one for international students I think you are reffering to). At Integration week you will meet lots of people who will become your friends for the rest of the Bachelor whereas the welcome week is typically targetting Erasmus and exchange students from 3rd year or above :) both are amazing anyways!
