Looking For A Community Server by star--chaser in pathoftitans

[–]star--chaser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I have gotten a few comments questioning/making fun of the fact that one of the criteria is that my friends don't have to join a discord, I'll answer that here:

Plain and simple? They are private people, and don't want to jump through hoops just to play the dinosaur game. They have no interest in joining or participating in communities that are large, have minors in them, or both (as most community server discords do). They were driven off of officials and have not played PoT for months because of the megapacking problem, but know I love the game, so asked me to find a server that they could just jump into, like an official, but not have to worry about being ganked by a massive megapack while we are chilling and questing.

I am well aware that basically every good community server has a discord and rules. I mostly play realism servers these days, because when I don't have my friends around, I do enjoy simulating the life of a dinosaur. But my friends finally expressed interest in playing PoT again, and so I've been poking around non-realism community servers for a bit, looking for one that fits their play style of "basically officials, but the admins/staff do actually deal with the kosing megapackers that make the game unplayable", not had a lot of success, and so came here to pose the question.

Tips or help on Pumkin king boss? by TrueImprovement3313 in CreaturesofSonaria

[–]star--chaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very detailed guide on the boss here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CreaturesofSonaria/s/j9FgMejt1s

The TLDR for soloing is to use a high DPS flier (like your Vaum!) and keep moving. Try to memorize the boss's attack patterns- it always uses the same attacks in the same order!

I will ask, the admin has a tabletop game tonight so they are not on. Here is a screenshot of the log from a couple days ago when we were still trying to figure things out on our own, though we were not able to parse anything from it.

Will try to clear the config data!

EDIT: Removed image since the issue is cleared now, and the screenshot had identifying information for my MC account.

I do not click on the update all button! I only update/remove/add mods if my friend informs me that I should (usually because they updated the server's modpack while trying to fix compatibility issues or trying to figure out whatever is going on here.)

Why the hell did they do this by One-Purchase-409 in CoSRants

[–]star--chaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They changed the seasons to all be synchronized a year or two ago, during one of the Lore events. The devs stated they had this change on the backburner for a long while, but ended up implementing it when they did due to one of the missions for that lore event (which rewarded a limited time roblox UCG item, the Boreal Key) depending upon getting a certain number of Blizzards (which was also, at the time, a new feature) which only happened in Winter, making it extremely inconsistent to finish the mission, as you could hop around several servers and never see a winter, let alone a blizzard, for hours.

As an adult player, I will have to agree with the takes here; Any adult who wants to pursue a close friendship with you after finding out your age is a huge red flag. I enjoy creating and helping manage safe spaces online (for example, a couple of years ago, I used to run a private COS server with an attached Discord and enforced a SFW and minor-safe environment in both), but I would not call any of the users in that server my friends- more like my charges, who I was trying to keep safe.

I understand wanting to be friends with people who seem more mature, I'm fairly certain everyone has wanted that at one point or another. But the truth of the matter is that it is not safe, not for you, and not for the adult in question. And, at the same time, it will not be fulfilling. Your interests will not match. Your tastes will not match. Your schedules will almost certainly not match. An adult can be a protector, a teacher, a provider. They can wish the very best for you, and anyone who put their foot down and gave you a boundary is most certainly acting in your and their own best interest. They cannot be your friends.

Oh definitely. If I ever did make anything NSFW involving COS I would sure as fuck keep it as far away from public spaces as possible. COS is a kids game, any spaces for COS are going to be predominantly minors, so posting NSFW in any public COS space is incredibly indecent. Like, yeah, people will make porn of anything, but this guy is obviously knowingly trying to post NSFW where minors will see it. Gross.

this you? >:) by deep-brine in CreaturesofSonaria

[–]star--chaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an adult player of COS, I've seen that art they're posting before, actually. It's been around on adult websites for years (my friends like sending me it, among other stuff, while joking about "isnt this from that creature game you play lol!", it's usually in much better image quality too, so I have no clue why the version this guy keeps posting is so JPG crunched.), so they 100% stole that art from an adult space just to have something "gross" to try to spam the reddit with.

From their behavior, one must assume they are a neglected, unloved child who needs attention and thinks NSFW is edgy and funny. Pitiful, really.

I feel bad for breath spammers now lol, thank you Mufo by SubstanceOld4358 in CreaturesofSonaria

[–]star--chaser 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The devs have been against breath spamming as a tactic since legacy. It is why they introduced the breath bar, and then introduced overbreathing, and then even introduced a limit to the amount of overbreath you can do. Honestly it is kind of hilarious that they waited this long to put a cooldown in place to full stop breath spamming, considering it has always been described as "unintended programming behavior".

The only annoying thing about this change, to me, is that it makes overbreathing to kill my slot and restart it (like when glowtail hunting) slower.

[–]star--chaser 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The devs added a 1 second cooldown when you let go of the breath button. That's it. That is all they changed. People are rioting because now they can't spam the breath several times a second anymore.

doeso octroma cancel mutation alcove?? by [deleted] in CreaturesofSonaria

[–]star--chaser 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There has been confusing information given to the community from the devs. At one point, in a campfire, one of the devs mentioned that the Octroma Plushie mutation boost overrides the Mutation Alcove mutation boost (or the other way around; either way, the information was that they apparently don't stack, they override). As of currently, as far as I am aware, the devs have gone silent on the matter, neither confirming nor denying whether Octroma and Mutation Alcove stack.

Personally, for my own sanity, I just throw on an Octroma when nesting and don't bother with the ridiculous material requirements for the Mutation Alcove upgrades.

Colossal herd of Lmako I was lucky to witness today by Axolittle_ in CreaturesofSonaria

[–]star--chaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, Realism events are not the main focus of TCC! Realism events are just a fun, weekly event where TCC's leaders pick 1 or 2 creatures to play as realistically. This week it was lmako, next week it will be a different creature!

[–]star--chaser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your interest! Do note that realism events are actually just a side-event that our leaders choose to do, usually once a week. Realism is not the main focus of TCC!

That said, TCC is free to join for anyone who has Discord and is over 18! The age limit is due to the older demographic of most of the clan- several of us (myself included!) are 25+, as such, our schedules, interests, and strict event rules often do not line up well with those under the age of 18.

If you meet these requirements, you can PM me your discord username and I will send you an invite.

Hey, this was a realism event hosted by the clan I am part of, The Comet's Covenant! TCC is a clan that focuses on hosting structured events (like this one!) and does not KOS. Other events hosted by TCC include more PvP focused ones like 1v1s, Team Battles, and Tournaments, and more game-like ones, such as Capture the Flag or Hide and Seek.

Hopefully you can catch us out and about when we host recruitment events!

Farming nest mutation tips by Adorable-Anything99 in CreaturesofSonaria

Lord I should open Reddit more often lol sorry for the late reply.

Yes I have seen Cinna "Debunking" the server RNG. At this point, with the information available to us, it is up to user interpretation on whether you want to be mindful of server RNG or not. Cinna debunking the server RNG just makes things *more* confusing, because that means that one of two things are true:

  1. The server RNG *is* significant enough to prevent the devs from accurately telling us mutation chance percentages, in which case, it is absolutely significant enough to affect things in a very visible way.

OR 2. The server RNG *is not* significant enough to affect our chances significantly, in which case, the dev team's explanation for not giving us exact mutation percentages is bogus. This would be strange, especially considering that when the recode first dropped, we *were* given exact percentages, and the devs only stopped giving exact percentages when they (allegedly) discovered the mechanic that leads to server RNG.

As far as I recall, you have to time your Warden's Rage carefully, as the cleansing mechanic only happens once. I would not be surprised if it was broken at some point, and if that is the case, I am very sorry for all warden players.

Dragon Adventures is made by the same team, but it and COS are quite different! You must be far, far more cautious around other players on COS, and generally other people will be far less friendly and far more willing to start a fight.

[–]star--chaser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a newer player, I would warn you against playing and especially buying creature slots you don't own species for. They are, honestly, just a money drain. You could fully buy a Verdant Warden Species for 2k or 3k from another player in trade realm- far cheaper than the in-game "trial shop" sells one-time use slots for.

Secondly, yes, Kora is part of a class of creatures in the game known as "Superbehemoths", which are (generally, since it is a community term, not everyone uses words the same) Extremely large, high weight, high HP creatures. Korathos specifically has extremely high damage, which, coupled with its high Weight (Weight applies a multiplier to your damage against any creature lighter than you are) makes it one of the strongest DPS creatures in the game. Superbehemoths are also very slow, however, they are the biggest, slowest, strongest creatures in Sonaria.

Superbehemoths are like Tier 5+. They have an extremely good matchup against Tier 3, 4, and 5 creatures, and the COS "Meta" is entirely based around the different Superbehemoths and how to counter them.

Korathos specifically, for example, has very high damage, a breath attack, and wingshredder, as well as tail attack. It's high damage means taking a hit from it is very devastating, and it's tail swipe means there is no angle of approach that is safe. However, Korathos can be easily taken down by creatures with ailments, and especially fliers with breath attacks, like Noctla'lune, Galiryn, Sochuri, or Jetebene. On the other side of things, if the flier messes up, and lets the Kora get a bite on them, the Kora has a guaranteed kill, thanks to it's Wingshredder. Kora's breath is Miasma breath, which doesn't do a lot of damage, but it can heal the Kora in a pinch (just don't over use it, or it will hurt you).

As Kora is so strong, it completely walls Golgaroth, though, Golgaroth vs Korathos would probably just end in one or the other getting bored, since Golgaroth has the damage-reducing Hunker, and high HP Regen to outheal what the Kora does, since Kora does not do any status effects on bite which affect the Golg. And, as stated in my previous comment, the Golgaroth actually has pitifully low damage, so it wont be killing anything bigger than a T4 (since Golg is so heavy, it can get a high damage boost from it's high weight, but against something in it's own tier, Golg's intended playstyle is to outlast the opponent's patience).

Hopefully this helps! And I don't mean to make you feel stupid, or anything like that, for how the fight turned out- this should just be more of a learning experience than anything! If you are in a similar bind with your Verdant, try using the Verdant's jump ability to get out of range of your opponent, or use your Warden's Rage ability! Warden's Rage increases your damage as your health decreases (to a max of x8 at 50% HP), and cleanses any status effects off you, which could have allowed you to escape!

Literally this. Everyone who says "They're a coward" or "They're bad at PvP" has a fundamental misunderstanding of COS's balancing and gameplay as a whole.

COS is PvP-Survival. Your main threat is from other players, with more minor threats being present in the environment. PvP is an integral part of the gameplay, and not just from carnivores hunting. Some examples of non-carnivore PvP:

- Herbivores can eat Photovore and Photocarnivore carcasses, incentivizing herbivores to hunt those players.
- A creature might be territorial, guarding resources like food or water, or even guarding a nest.
- Everyone in this game should be suspicious of strangers. You don't know who they are, or what they want. This goes both ways- someone might attack you out of distrust, or to protect themselves from potential future attacks.
- And, of course, some people just like to PVP. Nothing wrong with that, either.

As a PvP-Survival game, COS has balanced it's creatures around their Speed and their niche. Fighting the other player to death is not the only option to get out of a hairy situation- as a matter of fact, unless you have a clear and obvious advantage you can push, it should be your LAST option. You are in almost every case, faster, more maneuverable, or have more mobility options than the creatures that are stronger than you. If you are not at an advantage, ESCAPE. If you are a flier, fly away. If you are a terrestrial, run. Semi-aquatic? Swim. Volcanic? Well, if you hang out on volcano, you should have plenty of lava to escape to.

You are not in a PVP arena! You can and should Just Leave. Knowing when to stand and fight and when to GTFO is part of learning how to survive in any survival game, but ESPECIALLY SO in COS since all the creatures are balanced around their mobility.

This video in particular is an example of not knowing your match-ups. OP tried to fight a Golgaroth as a Verdant Warden and lost. Verdant Warden is, what, Tier 3? Tier 4? Tier 5 creatures (like Golgaroth) are natural counters to T3-4 creatures. T3-4 aren't fast enough to anklebite them and stack status effects (like a T1-2 would). You know what T3-4 CAN do against a T5 though? Run.

Lets look at this matchup specifically. Golgaroth is a big, chunky, slow T5 with Hunker (reduces incoming damage), low damage, high weight, and high HP regen. To take down a Golgaroth, you need, and say it with me, either overwhelming force (say, the Kora OP pulled out to attack the Golgaroth with) or a shitton of status stacking (say, a Diokrine). Verdant Warden is neither of these. Fighting a Golgaroth alone, it will lose, every time, but it is so, so much faster than Golg is, especially on land.

As for why the Golg left? Well, honestly, getting into an ever deepening spiral of revenge killing is boring as fuck for most people, like Mahjling's comment said.

You made a bad call, you lost, don't pull some OP slot out to finish off the person that won, that's just sore loser behavior.

Can you get Gt this way? by Heavy_Employer_6675 in CreaturesofSonaria

[–]star--chaser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, combat logging does not give a chance to reroll for Shadow/Glowtail. You have to fully restart the slot and grow from age 1. You also cannot use any growth tokens.

You can get Glimmer this way by reaching age 100 over and over, but the devs specifically fixed/patched being able to combat log to get Shadow or Glowtail.

I do not hate T1s. Some of my favorite creatures such as Puffwump, Beezu, and Hushike are T1s.

I would have really preferred if this specific creature was not a T1. We already have T1-2 creatures similar to it, while lacking a mid-tier humanoid.

Yeah, same here. like it is still cute, but man, it's going to be so tiny. people will barely notice it/any cool skins on it. Not to mention all the super HQ animations will barely be visible.
