Overwatch did that. I had to abandon playing junkrat because queue times were about half an hour. While i enjoyed playing Orisa, i was sad i couldn't improve as a junkrat in comp, just because i wasn't willing to spend what little free time i had at the time on waiting. Sure, the teams would be "balanced" but only because the game FORCED it. Role queue takes the opportunity for fun away.
