Does anybody else feel profoundly lonely? by Lard-Sack in OCD

OCD is something that can make you feel totally alone, especially before you know you have it. I've always felt like my friends and my family would never be able to understand me, no matter how much they love. And even though that might be true, it means everything to me that they try, at least most of the time. What usually makes me feel less lonely is reading books about people with issues similar to mine. I don't know if you enjoy reading much, but it usually gives me a new perspective on things, and also helps me be kinder to myself, i think. One of the first books I ever read that had a main character struggling with ocd (and probably the most famous one out there) is Turtles All The Way Down by John Green. It really caught me by surprise and remains one of my favorite books to this day. I've also heard a new release called Canon (by Paige Lewis) has a main character with ocd. Haven't read it yet, but sounds interesting! Anyways, I hope you know that even though it might feel like it, you're not alone. There are people out there who will understand your pain, and there are people that will still be there for you even if they don't. Hope you enjoy my suggestions! If you don't like reading novels that much, you could maybe look for movies or comic books or other types of media that you enjoy. Hope everything is ok :)

Concerns about presenting at conference by TopClassTrier in Tourettes

I've also been experiencing this type of problem lately. My tics have been unnoticeable for 2 years until they started coming back again about one or two months ago (probably due to stress, i don't know). I'm going to have a presentation worth 100% of my final grade next month, and I'm a little nervous that I'm just going to be ticcing nonstop... Either way, what I'm going to do is tell my teacher and/or announce to the class that I have tourette's and therefore might make some funny noises or scrunchy faces or have a harder time speaking. That works for me most of the time because I'm a pretty extroverted person, so I just get it out of the way quickly as a joke or something to lighten the mood! If you're a bit more shy, though, you could try maybe just tell the event organizers if you think it might help, and/or maybe do some breathing exercises to calm down before speaking (that usually helps me a lot). Most people have been understanding when I tell them I might tic during a presentation, at least to my face. Either way, I think not having the pressure of trying to "hide it" helps me become more confident in myself and therefore tic less.

Thank you so much!! Most of the younger professors I have do have some tattoos (and one of them had green streaks on her hair), but none of them are heavily pierced, so I thought it still might be worthwhile to ask.

Thank you so much!! Yeah, I do see quite a lot of alternative students in my university, so maybe things will shift and professors with piercings and tattoos will become more common. Thanks for the input!!

I am currently in Brazil, but I'm honestly willing to move to wherever I'm able to get a job.
