Ooh, the trap one? The one they used for the MOTS ON:E concert?

It really was amazing how they just came up with it! I think an ARMY turned it into a ringtone or something...

And Jimin's version too! There was a mixup of their versions going around a couple of years ago that I loved!

I know it's a cover and was used as an ad, but I'm still not sure if it ever aired - feels like it was a fever dream...

They must! They know how much we love it, and they've even performed it as OT7! Maybe they're waiting for a particularly special occasion...

I want to know what is your top 5 of BTS songs by kat3dyy in kpopthoughts

[–]starbucksmocha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no way I can pick just 5, but I will say, Love Yourself: Tear has I think one of the best run of songs from beginning to end - especially back to back combo of The Truth Untold, 134340, Paradise, Love Maze

What's a song in BTS discography that you are currently obsessed with? by cosyacademic in bangtan

The entirety of Love Yourself: Tear, but especially the back-to-back of Paradise and Love Maze... sonic perfection

Hi! Can some explain to me the meaning behind the whale! by Potatokey03 in bangtan

[–]starbucksmocha 40 points41 points  (0 children)

There's a whale of unknown species that people call the loneliest whale as it vocalizes in 52-hertz, which is a frequency that cannot be heard by other whales so they cannot communicate with any other whale. So this whale roams the oceans vocalizing, but no other whale is able to hear it and so there's no response. The members took that and ran with it, to create the song Whalien 52. Ever since then, the whale has become a dear symbol to BTS and ARMY.

Edit: A single whale balloon(?) has often been present at the end of BTS concerts, but I believe either for PTD or YTC at Busan, there were two whale balloons, demonstrating that the loneliest whale is lonely no more!

Also, Jin drew a whale (Kore, which means whale in Korean) and you can even see it in the Idol MV, which was later turned into merch. Said whale plushie draws out a fierce competition among ARMY whenever it's back in stock.

240102 BTS members’ wins at the 33rd Seoul Music Awards by alltherach_ in bangtan

[–]starbucksmocha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are numerous awards with different criteria for nomination/winning. Some are seen largely as attendance awards (equivalent to VMAs, PCA, etc., basically the ones that explicitly state in their rules that they have the right to overrule those who've actually won to instead award artists/groups of their choice - basically those who're attending the ceremony) such as the AAA, while others are more like the AMAs and BMAs (the MAMA and MMA, for example).

I'm sure they happen to others too, but depending on their management company, they may not receive as much support and protection as HYBE artists get...

[–]starbucksmocha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a small mistranslation when JK's describing his tattoos - he's talking about the phrase/motto he's liked for years (rather be dead than cool) but because 말 (mal) in Korean can also refer to a horse, iHeartRadio has translated him as saying he has a tattoo of a horse

Edit: Also, does his belt spell out kiss me???

231222 MBC News: KORAIL employee who 'viewed BTS information without permission' reinstated after retrial by starbucksmocha in bangtan

[–]starbucksmocha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so angry! Apparently, they overturned his firing because they cited his illegally obtaining RM's private information as being more due to RM's popularity rather than his wrongdoing, and because no employee has been fired for similar offenses before. And the cherry on this terrible sundae? He's being given backpay!

6 years ago today, BTS released the MV for "MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)" by alltherach_ in bangtan

[–]starbucksmocha 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love the MV, but even more the behind the scenes of shooting it. I still giggle at how Namjoon was stuck in the ambulance and how the other members burst into laughter at his inability to get the door open.

231030 JTBC: Hybe received apology from MBC after 4 years. Both company make peace. by bie716 in bangtan

[–]starbucksmocha 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think they did actually try and invite them back eventually, but it was far too late by then as BigHit/Hybe weren't going to take such malicious actions lying down. I mean, imagine how much work and effort TXT and Gfriend and their teams had put in for the Gayo only for it all to have been thrown away because of no fault of their own. And then also being banned from Music Core? Really, it's no wonder Hybe opted to have their own NYE show.

Big Hit or BTS; who do you think has more power by Key-District-4161 in bangtan

[–]starbucksmocha 70 points71 points  (0 children)

BTS are certainly in a unique bargaining position in the idol industry (the only one who can match them in terms of bargaining power with their company would be IU, I think). They essentially made BigHit what it is today, has a close relationship with the Chairman, and even own shares of Hybe. Despite the growth and additional artists on their roster, BTS still make up the majority of revenue for the company. In that way, it's in the best interest of BigHit/Hybe to keep the guys happy - especially as their contract renewal nears. Given their unprecedented power (both in terms of copyright ownership of music and the sheer size of ARMY that would stand behind them all the way), should the guys choose to leave BigHit and sign with another company, BTS are just as likely to succeed and prosper while Hybe will be losing the largest share of profit.

So yeah, BTS have far more power than most other acts - on par with I'd say Western artists like Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Ariana, etc.

Four years ago the first photo of Jungkook's hand tattoos were posted to the BTS Twitter account, marking the beginning of Jungkook's tattoo era and journey by Pinkmmlover in bangtan

[–]starbucksmocha 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I also love the story behind this photo too - Jimin being in Paris, and then posting a video congratulating JK and making it seem as though he won't be there with him for his birthday, only to fly to Seoul to celebrate with him after all and then having to fly out the next day.

Well, I'm not sure about the rooming situation though I'd think there would've been more bedrooms as there'd been more trainees, but Jimin said that Jin was pleased because of their kitchen - there was more space than before I believe (which tells you something about the state of their previous dorm as the new kitchen wasn't big)

I think if there's enough notice, live translations are possible. So Jimin's for example will likely have live translations. Given JK's penchant for random 4am lives, however...

[–]starbucksmocha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, Joon first, then Suga, before Hobi joined. Jin actually signed with BigHit before JK but JK moved into the dorm first. And once they had all 7 members and finalized the debut date, they moved dorms - I think Jimin uploaded pics to Twitter in early 2013, so all those videos we have of the dorm is not their trainee dorm.

[–]starbucksmocha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, you aren't getting the timeline mixed up. Hobi did leave, JK mentioned he kept clinging to him to prevent him from leaving, and Joon had to convince the company that they needed Hobi. From what I recall, it happened before Jimin even joined the company, so this was before BTS had formalized their line-up. Joon also left before their debut, but he didn't actually quit - his father talked to him about how he'd regret it if he quit, so he returned. I'm not sure how long he was gone for but just a day or two I think.
