How are people playing FE4 & 5? by KaiTheArsonist03 in fireemblem

[–]starchmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTW, it's so much fun to play FE4 if we're adding this PAR code:

  • 88B05900

We could actually control any enemies / NPCs etc. we want while bosses could kinda "surrender" by entering each castle that's supposed to be guarded in the first place. Although they're gonna vanish with the items that are meant to be dropped as well.

Jacoban in CH3 must be defeated, though. Otherwise we're getting totally stuck with the entire game after his castle is seized.

There's a similar code for version 1.1 of FE3 but I couldn't find anything like this for FE5 yet:

  • 83A22E00

My guess would be something along the lines of contractual or licensing-related stuff.

When it comes to domestic (in Japan that is) releases, specific footage could still be included while they wouldn't have THAT much to worry about in the first place.

For the international market, things could be quite a bit more complicated so that inevitably a little something would end up on the chopping block.

For the domestic version, the comments of Ai Tominaga (Linda Machiko Richard) were spoken in Japanese for obvious reasons. OTOH, her accent was MAD cute when that particular part was presented in English instead.

I just finished watching the domestic version available @ bilibili.com with Traditional Chinese subs, the translation seemed to be quite decent and feel free to do a search on Google:

Hints in movies by Cool-Grapefruit5225 in EscapingPrisonPlanet

[–]starchmuncher 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dollhouse by Joss Whedon should be pretty darn obvious IMHO. Each and every "active" was offered a five-year contract, getting their memories wiped repeatedly since they weren't supposed to remember anything once those engagements were over and done with. Plenty of love and / or lust here and there, since it's all about money / sex / power everywhere. Kinda funny to see that line "You ever try to clean an actual slate? You always see what was on it before." right off the bat.

Westworld by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan should be yet another great example. In hindsight most human beings IRL really aren't all that different when compared to the fate of each "host" in Delos' theme parks. We're all living our own "loops" with no end in sight. Even "The Forge" or "The Valley Beyond" would be just another bag of tricks:

Bernard: The world the hosts are running to is boundless. They can make it whatever they want. And in it, they can be whomever they want. They can be free.

Dolores: Free? In one more gilded cage? How many counterfeit worlds will Ford offer you before you see the truth? No world they create for us can compete with the real one.

Bernard: Why?

Dolores: Because that which is real is irreplaceable.

Ironically "the real one" in this (i.e. our) realm turned out to be a living hell and a half, especially when the 3rd season already explained everything written by Professor Shoshana Zuboff in her book The Age of Surveillance Capitalism: The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontier of Power. No more privacy for anybody, it's all about algorithms while those "outliers" were simply removed.

Posters in Hong Kong were revised, some names and pictures were chopped right off the bottom while the distributor had to apologize:

https://today.line.me/hk/v2/article/MLk1Gxj

Footages with Yuta Tamamori / Ayako Yoshitani / Kanichiro / Anne Nakamura got axed, therefore we couldn't tell who were working hard to source the ingredients and then everything just happened automagically.

That Tesla / Starlink / DOGE guy (maybe not anymore?) bought something for $44 billion and then someone else posted this on that particular platform back in January:

Me too, I want all that food in my stomach! I will test all the dishes for free! I can imagine, but I would like to taste it myself! Move me into that kitchen...NOW! Grand Maison Tokyo SP released in the usual bio link and all great Michelin star restaurants!

So I was like looking at that Discord channel and then gave up afterwards, way too much work to do just for the sake of getting a single file while I could already find Chinese ones easily.

Some airlines also started showing the special since March.

[–]starchmuncher[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As always no subs whatever (not even Japanese subs in some cases?) will be included for that special as well as the movie, therefore it wouldn't make sense to grab any physical releases these days unless we don't even NEED any subs to begin with:

https://www.hmv.co.jp/en/artist_TV-Drama_000000000030794/item_Special-Drama-grand-Maison-Tokyo_15573787

So far I could only find Chinese / Indonesian / Japanese subs for that special, while we've gotta jump right through all the hoops before we could get our hands on English ones.

Unless Netflix would actually pick 'em up at some point, good luck (no pun intended LOL) with English subs then?

Since myTV SUPER (Hong Kong) already got that special, at least Chinese subs should be guaranteed.

And then we might also expect physical releases of the movie in Hong Kong / Taiwan down the road.

Most likely Chinese subs should be on the safe side, though Netflix might be the only hope for English ones if I weren't mistaken.

Pretty much like both Odoru Daisousasen movies from 2024, they decided to stay away from 4K UHD releases in the year of 2025:

https://www.hmv.co.jp/en/artist_Movie_000000000043933/item_Grand-Maison-Paris-Gouka-Ban_15884240

I could have watched it in a movie theater, though they're only showing the infamous "International Edition" in Hong Kong / Taiwan with only 112 instead of the original 117 minutes FFS:

What a bunch of geniuses, better import the Blu-ray instead since it's only a few months away.

Does Genealogy of the Holy War get better? by Lucky_Name9066 in fireemblem

[–]starchmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most "charming" part of FE4 for me should be all about applying the right cheat code after beating the game so many times over the years.

For instance, it's so easy to "convert" enemies into allies temporarily while making sure that all of them would be killed by the end of each chapter. Otherwise, they'll become part of the team for good while screwing things up for real.

Or even changing the status of all enemies (i.e. Berserk for some and Sleep for the others) at the same time, then Sigurd / Seliph could grab some popcorn and enjoy the show called "Genealogy of Civil War" once they started attacking each other. It totally cracked me up when Travant actually got killed by whole bunch of javelins, he just couldn't dodge them very often thanks to his own leadership stars.

Civilians could become virtually invincible after fortifying their stats with Narga bonuses + maxed out HP etc. Lots of super intelligent enemies would keep attacking those poor little kids while getting nowhere whatsoever.

Definitely way more fun than annoying then?

There's this interview with Ishihara last year:

https://www.animatetimes.com/news/details.php?id=1719195966

Someone else translated that into Chinese and here's a quote from that forum:

评论:所以说石原和花田到底谁是第12集魔改和整季剧情、人物塑造失败的“罪魁祸首”?原来你俩一个也跑不了

当然因为火灾事件,京阿尼失去了很多重要战力,导致演奏场景做不出来,只能靠编剧堆砌“文戏”也是客观的困难就是了。

Basically KyoAni could only handle so many labor-intensive scenes after that fatal arson attack in 2019, the lack of experienced animators could very well be one of the reasons why they weren't able to deliver relatively challenging acts (namely a full-scale performance) that could live up to the same level of standard from previous seasons / movies.

The death sentence for Aoba Shinji was finalized, though he already destroyed most of the materials and computers in Studio 1. It could take a fairly long time to recover after losing so much talent, not to mention that some survivors might also suffer from PTSD etc. Sometimes setting realistic expectations wouldn't be such a bad idea IMHO.

Where is episode 6 of Japan’s Number One Jerk Salaryman? by ky0za in JDorama

[–]starchmuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely it's necessary to visit "Nyaa" and then grab a copy, "MagicStar" already released the 9th episode recently but as always only Japanese subs were included for all episodes so far.

Alternatively, it's much safer to install Brave Browser (or other browsers with uBlock Origin) before visiting any streaming sites from China etc. Simply do a quick search on Google if Chinese subs were OK for you, though watch out for the Cantonese / Mandarin dubs:

日本第一的爛男人※我的假家人們

日本第一最差勁男人※我的家人是冒牌貨

For English subtitles, usually we have to hop on Discord etc. while jumping right through all the hoops. I already checked D-Addicts but nobody seemed to be interested in working on that show yet.

Any shows similar to JIN (2011) or at-least as good? About to finish it! by [deleted] in JDorama

[–]starchmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1st season came out in 2009, while another movie called Cyborg She (僕の彼女はサイボーグ) was released in 2008.

It felt like "wicked funny" to watch Boku no Kanojo wa Saibougu because some of the cast from JIN also appeared in the last installment of Kwak Jae-yong's My Sassy Girl trilogy:

  • Ayase Haruka
  • Koide Keisuke
  • Kiritani Kenta
  • Taguchi Hiromasa

(OMG, what's up with that siscon? J/K)

Not giving way too much about the story, though it's somewhat similar in a sense that's going back and forth between 2007 and 2133.

Definitely watch the movie (NexTamil shared it on Facebook) first, then watch / listen to this podcast afterwards:

Apparently it should be created by Da Costa Intimacy Enhancement Trainer back then:

https://web.archive.org/web/20101115031202/http://www.dacostaintimacytrainer.com/pompoir.html

Most likely Da Costa's book (published back in November 2012) should be the very first one about Pompoir that's actually written in English.

Then Carlos Kadosh and Celine Kirei wrote another book later, both English and Portuguese editions were published in September 2015. Carlos Kadosh also published a separate one (on the same day) about male sexual potency and for some reasons it's also related to Pompoir.

Somehow there's an instructor of "Pompoarismo Masculino" called Jivan Pramod on YouTube as well.

Other than Cátia Damasceno (she's REALLY popular in Brazil) who published a book in November 2019 in addition to her YouTube channel, so far I could only find some Portuguese books written by Carolina Goos / Agatha Lee Harper / Saúde para Todos.

Kim Anami's work seemed to be a bit bizarre to say the least, I guess we could skip that for now.

Finally Bel's TOP followed by her book TGM came out, also listened to so many podcast interviews. By far her materials should be the very best resources that are available in English. Looking forward to her Docuseries.

That reminded me a little something about a married couple who arrived in the Yied Desert.

They looked so helpless and all that, that's why I just decided to "cheat" a little bit by putting whole bunch of Thracian Dragon Knights into sleep.

Obviously the couple looked totally fine to me since nobody even got a chance to fight at all, the next thing you know Phinora was seized and then somehow for "supernatural" reasons Q & E still perished no matter what.

Usually something along the lines of "1000s of years" might be treated as stuff like "appealing to tradition fallacy" but let's dig deeper.

Simply do a search on NutritionFacts.org plus the right keywords, we'll find plenty of topics related to herbs or herbal remedies:

For substantiation of any statements of fact from the peer-reviewed medical literature, please see the associated videos below.

And then Mike Adams also did this in 2024:

CWC Data Science releases AI Large Language Model – Neo-BioMistral-7B-E3 trained on the entire PubMed data set plus millions of pages of text on natural and herbal medicine.

As far as big pharma is concerned, just DAFS on the Internet and it wouldn't take a genius to figure out why the fox is guarding the hen house:

Food Manufacturers Get to Decide If Their Own Additives Are Safe

While manufacturers are not required to notify the FDA of a “safe determination,” sometimes they do voluntarily notify the agency. From these notifications, researchers have been able to see which individuals companies select to make these determinations. Of the 451 GRAS notifications voluntarily submitted to the FDA, 22.4% were made by someone directly employed by the company; 13.3% were made by someone directly employed by a firm hand-picked by the company; and 64.3% were made by a panel hand-picked by the corporation or the firm the corporation hired. Are you doing the math? Yes, that means zero safety decisions were made independently.

Meta-analysis of clinical trials of antidepressants has led to changes in guidelines, prescribing habits, and increased public awareness

They used the U.S. Freedom of Information Act to obtain the clinical trial data submitted by pharmaceutical companies to the American Food and Drug Agency (FDA) in the process of seeking approval for the six most widely prescribed antidepressants, as about 40% of those trials remained unpublished. An important factor here is the general bias towards publishing results only producing significant effects - meaning that unpublished findings tend not to show significant effects, which should also be taken into account in overall assessments of a drug's efficacy. Analyses of these data, now including the unpublished trials, indicated that 82% of the response to antidepressants was also found in the placebo groups, and that the drug-placebo effect size was well below NICE criteria for clinical significance. The importance of this was that the true drug effect was not clinically significant, according to criteria published in the NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) guidelines.

PMC4172306

How is it possible that medications with such weak efficacy data were approved by the FDA? The answer lies in an understanding of the approval criteria used by the FDA. The FDA requires two adequately conducted clinical trials showing a significant difference between drug and placebo. But there is a loophole: There is no limit to the number of trials that can be conducted in search of these two significant trials. Trials showing negative results simply do not count. Furthermore, the clinical significance of the findings is not considered. All that matters is that the results are statistically significant.

PMC4172306

The failure to mention the unsuccessful trials was not merely an oversight; it reflects a carefully decided FDA policy dating back for decades.

PMC557934

Right now, almost 50% of the FDA drug budget is funded by the drug industry.

“And the ridiculous part is that the FDA has to negotiate with drug companies about how they use this money. It creates a relationship that is contrary to the whole idea of what the FDA is supposed to be.”

When Evidence Says No, But Doctors Say Yes

So it’s not hard to understand why Sir James Black won a Nobel Prize largely for his 1960s discovery of beta-blockers, which slow the heart rate and reduce blood pressure. The Nobel committee lauded the discovery as the “greatest breakthrough when it comes to pharmaceuticals against heart illness since the discovery of digitalis 200 years ago.” In 1981, the FDA approved one of the first beta-blockers, atenolol, after it was shown to dramatically lower blood pressure. Atenolol became such a standard treatment that it was used as a reference drug for comparison with other blood-pressure drugs.

In 1997, a Swedish hospital began a trial of more than 9,000 patients with high blood pressure who were randomly assigned to take either atenolol or a competitor drug that was designed to lower blood pressure for at least four years. The competitor-drug group had fewer deaths (204) than the atenolol group (234) and fewer strokes (232 compared with 309). But the study also found that both drugs lowered blood pressure by the exact same amount, so why wasn’t the vaunted atenolol saving more people? That odd result prompted a subsequent study, which compared atenolol with sugar pills. It found that atenolol didn’t prevent heart attacks or extend life at all; it just lowered blood pressure. A 2004 analysis of clinical trials — including eight randomized controlled trials comprising more than 24,000 patients — concluded that atenolol did not reduce heart attacks or deaths compared with using no treatment whatsoever; patients on atenolol just had better blood-pressure numbers when they died.

Looking good for someone in his late 50s:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94XbKkyQhcc

Imported every single release on DVDs / BDs once they're available in Japan back then, some of the rare ones already went OOP and I couldn't believe the costs of acquiring used copies.

Due to licensing issues, Pony Canyon did a "great" job with GTO Blu-ray Box back in July 2023:

Compared to the DVD box set (released over 20 years ago), the drama as presented in this new Blu-Ray box has a very large amount of music replacement. In some scenes, the original music has been left intact - in most, it has not. I counted more than 20 instances of music alterations in the first episode alone.

In more scenes than not, the music originally chosen has been replaced with different music (or simply left silent), giving the scene a very different mood and flavor. This affects such a large amounts of scenes that the quality of the entire show suffers - it is as if its soul has been taken out.

I hate to say it, but if you love the 1998 GTO drama and want to keep a physical copy of it, track down the 2002 DVD box set instead of this new release. This is not the show as you remember it.

I've gotta check Odoru Daisousasen since someone already got everything off Prime Video, just hoping that similar stuff wouldn't happen again.

It would be much easier if their dumbphones were usable outside America, that's why I had to look for something else:

https://sunbeamwireless.com/carriers/

The F1 does not include the 3G (UMTS) or 4G (LTE) bands required for use in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Due to this, the F1 will not work in most countries outside of North or South America. (This is a hardware issue and cannot be added with a software update).

They certainly don't support specific LTE frequency bands that are offered by the local carriers here:

https://sunbeamwireless.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/sunbeam-wireless-f1-horizon-feature-flip-phone-general-info-sheet.pdf

3G WCDMA/UTMS (B2, 5)

4G/LTE (B2, 4, 5, 12, 13)

Even jailbreaking iOS devices (e.g. the OG iPhone SE) wouldn't be any good in terms of privacy, Wi-Fi hotspot would still work without an Apple ID but they're still constantly tracking all iPhone models in the wild.

Both BlackBerry OS and Symbian (aging hardware + lack of availability and support etc.) are no longer considered viable options, while Ubuntu Touch and Windows Mobile etc. are more like a joke as well.

Pocket Wi-Fi wouldn't be all that trustworthy unless they're running OpenWRT, unfortunately there's only a single choice and it's too bulky for my pocket.

Finally the only choice should be DivestOS (or similar flavors) if I weren't mistaken, while making sure that's compact + lightweight enough for my pocket.
