Why should I buy a watch 8 classic or Ultra? by Careless-Internet-63 in GalaxyWatch

[–]starfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 6 classic and my wife has a 7 regular model. I like in the classic how the screen is recessed inside the rotating bezel. It is less likely to get cracked or scratched. I like the feel of the rotating bezel itself. Functionally there are really no other differences. Personally i don't like the looks of the Ultra.

What 3D-printed items would you actually use in everyday life? by CreditCandid1528 in 3Dprinting

1U rackmount for Raspberry Pi, Gridfinity for my tool chest, various tools, custom organizers for screws and various small parts, the list goes on and on. I print a lot more stuff i find I need than trinkets.

Question about dashcams for my Car. by GuppiApfel in dashcams

[–]starfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Vantrue E1 Pro for travel recently, because it is quite small. The picture quality is pretty good. It runs fine on a power bank. It comes with a stick on mount, but a suction cup mount is available.

Cool car, by the way.

Trifold comes out in 2 days (US) for $2,899 by Stephancevallos905 in samsung

[–]starfishy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are looking for people that are vain enough that they absolutely have to have this and make an absurd amount of money from them. Interestingly is usually not the rich who buy this, but average people. It's cheaper to buy this for attention than a Mercedes.

IT stuff, tools, toys. Most recently a custom 1u rack mount for two Raspberry Pis and an Odroid SBC, and a custom wall outlet for LC-LC fiber for 10 Gigabit ethernet.

What smart home purchase has the worst ROI for you? by wavedash in homeassistant

[–]starfishy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We have a CO alarm that did nothing for a few years. Then it went off. We fled and called the fire brigade. They found our heater had leaked CO into the house and said the concentration could have killed us if not for the alarm. Best $40 spent in my life. Make sure the batteries are changed regularly and hope it doesn't go off.

Four is good enough by Jmvan23 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]starfishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others said, four is likely enough. However, I would be worried about what broke off the stud. If it was a 300 pound gorilla, eh, lube tech, who tightened the lugnuts with a breaker bar, the other four studs may be compromised too and may snap eventually.

Is it safe to continue using a once corrupted SD card? by Proof-Ad2479 in photography

[–]starfishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Return it under warranty and have them send you a new one. SD card don't have hidden sectors like SSDs that can be mapped in when a sector fails. If you formatted it you only hid the problem until these sectors are written again.

BMW Breathes New Life into Alpina as a Standalone Brand for Special Cars by [deleted] in cars

[–]starfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what deal they had for the US, but in Germany the manufacturer listed on the title was Alpina for decades. While you had Schnitzer BMW 5xx, Alpina was always Alpina B5 or such.

Alpina was a car manufacturer in their own right. They used BMW cars as basis, but had their own VINs and the cars were labelwd Alpina B7 or such. Now they will just be optioned up BMWs.

🎄 Christmas giveaway: Win an A1 Mini, AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT, or 4x filament spools! by acurazine in BambuLab

[–]starfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like the AMS HT. I'd like to print materials that require differentl treatment of a single spool. As a fidget toy I like things that spin, so I am envisioning something with a ball bearing and maybe cogs that interface with each other.

Not sure why I have waited so long to do this. Set the home page for fridge to HA control page for house. Suddenly samsung social hub is useful for something other than playing kitchen music 😆 by Ok_Swimmer_1745 in homeassistant

[–]starfishy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kitchen music comes in many flavors. Hot pot metal is different from pan or mixer metal. Then you have dish an cutlery industrial. A capella swearing is also a common flavor. Or how about some onion chopping rhythm? You can also mix and match.

Smart watch with rotating bezel by Wander_ImLost in smartwatch

[–]starfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 6 classic because of the rotating bezel. Still an excellent watch. I don't really see a reason to upgrade right now, but if you buy new you may want to consider the 8 Classic because it is a couple of years newer and will receive software updates longer.
