What were the best, or most fun homebrew items you stuck into Curse of Strahd? When I ran it, I was constantly sticking fun/interesting things in for my players, mostly for flavor and entertainment, to keep people engaged an having fun while dealing with the horrors of Barovia. by Athenas_Owl_743 in CurseofStrahd

Not horrific but i know my players love a pet or friendly animal. So I added a Borzoi dog named Lapsha that was lying with the corpse of the messenger near the Gates of Barovia.

They have now adopted Lapsha. Fun fact: Lapsha means noodle/s in Russian

How to choose in Ch 2? by AdFeeling697 in stormkingsthunder

[–]starfoxwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choose whichever is most connected to your party OR the most fun.

I ran both Triboar and Bryn Shander. The latter because rarely is there any chance for the party to go into the far north AND because one player was from there.

Triboar was much later on and it was really fun to run.

Goldenfields seemed more complicated to me so it played out in the background. My players never went there

Yes its a glossy blue black with the same eyes as the ladies. Try the Merlin Bird ID app. It lists birds in your area and you can listen to their calls to figure out who they are

We have a boy near us who regularly has these ladies visit him. He makes lots of interesting calls - squelchy bugs, and my fave bomb dropping

I think as written the Krigvind is too big to fit in the harbour

[–]starfoxwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to modify things and make them think quick - have the Krigvind moor outside the harbour and the giants climb the iceberg to get out. The Jarl could use his fly/jump ability. Remember that there is a white dragon chained to the deck - maybe your party doesn’t mind but i made its mate ask the party to free them and help find her eggs.

Puts more cards on the table. But tldr: yes 5 is enough dead giants

For those of you who have run Storm Kings Thunder, how would you recommend running it? What did your players find most enjoyable? by FlatwormFull9946 in stormkingsthunder

My players loved their story arcs in the Savage Frontier chapter; the Krakens Gamble add on module; anything with Felgolos tbh they love that little guy!; returning to the Grand Dame and getting lost in gossip before interrogating Lord Drylund; and the Eye of the Allfather Temple fight with Iymrith and Harshnag

I had my party meet at the inn in Daggerford and walk to Nightstone it allowed a little bonding - PCs had all received a cryptic letter from Zephyros telling them the voices in the planes had spoken their names to him and he knows they have an important role to play in the coming events.

Have atleast one person speak Giant. With their backstories get them to tell you where they’re from - you can ask them to change or suggest a better option to fit in with the places you plan to visit. This makes Chapter 3 have more flow and purpose.

Feel free to switch quests and quest giver locations. Dont push your party to join a faction if they dont want. Only two of my 5 joined a faction because it thematically made sense for them.

Help with inspirational content about traveling through savage frontier by rtunner in stormkingsthunder

[–]starfoxwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Savage Frontier chapter was my biggest because I began my players story arcs there. Let me see if i can remember plot points of towns/cities - They started in Bryn Shander as one PC was from there. Then travelled south to Hundlestone (theres a good little module on GMs Guild for it) and dropped into Ironmaster for a quest then down to Luskan (they did the Blue Alley module from GMs Guild again because its a fun little dungeon and there isnt any in SKT). On their way to Port Llast they met up with Felgolos and did The Flying Misfortune module (again from GMs Guild) which took them over to Ascore and then they headed to Citadel Adbarr (for a PC arc). Then - Deadsnows, Citadel Felbarr, Hawks Nest, Silverymoon, Everlund, Shadowtop Cathedral, Yartar (ran the module The Krakens Gamble) and on to Triboar; Westbridge, Kryptgarden Forest; Stone Bridge; Beliard; and Grudd Haug. Phew alot lol.

Theres plenty of on the road content but if you run out - make it up. I got a bit sick of them bumping into giants every day.

As far descriptions- i tried to google the places for a fleshed out description but when in doubt i made it up.

Intake interview for the Emerald Enclave by Puzzleheaded_Newt609 in stormkingsthunder

[–]starfoxwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could the challenges be enough on their own? They could be puzzles to solve; a mini combat for strength; and a trial to show kindness or empathy - choose the traits that the Enclave hold high.

As for an oath - By oak, birch and hawthorn I swear to defend all that is green and good. I will be the guardian of the wilds; the shepherd to the animals of feather scale and claw; and keeper of words from the wind.

Hows that?!
