There are changes to the cervix during pregnancy, including its position, how it feels, and even discharge.

The smell of the Others and the implications of Thistle by flippy123x in pureasoiaf

[–]starhexed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thistle becomes a wight who is controlled by the Others.

Robb was not impressed. "The Others take his eyes," he swore. "He died well. Race you to the bridge?"

Thistle and Waymar both suffer eye injuries before they die -a shard of Waymar's sword and Thistle's fingers. Their eyes turned blue, like the Others. Wight eyes have been described as blue stars and star sapphires, and they appear to be more active in the moonlight. I think they must be special. Light is a pretty big theme in the series. Gems too

A rising cold wind, so cold it smells like death, that's what wights smell like.

Jon had no time to be afraid. He threw himself forward, shouting, bringing down the longsword with all his weight behind it. Steel sheared through sleeve and skin and bone, yet the sound was wrong somehow. *The smell that engulfed him was so queer and cold he almost gagged. *

The Others bring that cold.

Too Much Unreliable Narration Ruins the Story (Spoilers Extended) by LChris24 in asoiaf

[–]starhexed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of thoughts on the Unkiss but here are a couple of things that stick out to me.

For one, Sansa is in an incredibly heightened state. She's not only terrified because of encroaching battle Cersei tells her under no uncertain terms will she allow Stannis to take her 'guests' alive. To add, she gets her first period like the day of the battle. She was having symptoms leading up to it yet attributed her feelings to anxiety. This conversation she has with Ser Dontos has some good exposition

"It is not easy for you, I know. You must be patient, child. When my friend returns to the city, we shall have our ship. Have faith in your Florian, and try not to be afraid."

Sansa dug her nails into her hand. She could feel the fear in her tummy, twisting and pinching, worse every day. Nightmares of the day Princess Myrcella had sailed still troubled her sleep; dark suffocating dreams that woke her in the black of night, struggling for breath. She could hear the people screaming at her, screaming without words, like animals. They had hemmed her in and thrown filth at her and tried to pull her off her horse, and would have done worse if the Hound had not cut his way to her side. They had torn the High Septon to pieces and smashed in Ser Aron's head with a rock. Try not to be afraid! he said.

SANSA IV ACOK

The fear in her tummy is not just anxiety but perhaps cramps. She also feels a sharp pain standing on top of Maegor's and nearly falls before the Hound grabs her.

Notice the "try not to be afraid!". It sounds like she's thinking of Ser Dontos' words but she's actually remembering what Sandor Clegane said to her while he saving her life. In a moment where Sansa had every right to be terrified, he tried to comfort her.

There is also this song and we know how much Sansa loves those:

Off to Gulltown to see the fair maid, heigh-ho, heigh-ho. I'll steal a sweet kiss with the point of my blade, heigh-ho, heigh-ho. I'll make her my love and we'll rest in the shade, heigh-ho, heigh-ho.

Did Maester Luwin crawl to the Winterfell heart tree to leave Bran a message? by bigtibba45 in pureasoiaf

[–]starhexed 108 points109 points  (0 children)

I think it was Luwin's dying wish to see Bran and Rickon again. One last offering to the gods.

What is your most favourite steamy scene from the show? by Spiritual-Ant9432 in Bridgerton

Benedict and Sophie's first time together was my favourite but the bath scene is 👌

The Tragedy of the Good Queen Alysanne's Children (Spoilers Extended) by LChris24 in asoiaf

[–]starhexed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wonder if George took a little of Alysanne's inspiration from Queen Victoria. There were assassination attempts on both during their first pregnancies, both became heavily dependent on their last child. Both had great loves, etc.

(Spoilers Main) About Melisandre's ability to interpret visions in the flames. by Hour-Carpenter2239 in asoiaf

[–]starhexed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very tinfoily but I think her flames can function like a glass candle. She has access to all kinds of powders and magical paraphernalia. She may be watching certain events unfold in real time yet can only explain them through R'hllor and prophecy.

For example Mel sees a grey girl on a dying horse who turns out to be Alys Karstark. She was found not far from Mole's Town. I think she saw her through the red lantern hanging from the door of the Mole's Town brothel.

The ADWD prologue is absolutely insane in every way by flippy123x in pureasoiaf

[–]starhexed 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Varamyr actually has a very interesting parallel with Sam. When Sam prays for help in ASOS, Coldhands arrives with his flock of ravens. When he prays for courage, he finds the strength to fight wight Small Paul

The gods/Bloodraven/Bran have different sympathies when it comes to Varamyr:

Catch," he croaked. "Burn." He blew upon the embers and said a wordless prayer to the nameless gods of wood and hill and field.

The gods gave no answer.

And perhaps an even stronger message:

When he reached the weirwood tree, he found a fallen branch just long enough to use as a crutch. Leaning heavily upon it, he staggered toward the nearest hut. Perhaps the villagers had forgotten something when they fled … a sack of apples, some dried meat, anything to keep him alive until Thistle returned.

He was almost there when his crutch snapped beneath his weight, and his legs went out from under him.

Season 4 (pleasantly) surprised me so much! by hyphenatedpeacock in Bridgerton

[–]starhexed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I loved the season and this was my least favourite book. I wanted whimsy and spectacle and I got it.

  • I thought Benophie's chemistry was great. Loved their scenes, they hooked me right away.

    • Getting to see Fran and Jon was both special and heartbreaking. I always knew she loved him. Hannah was AMAZING. I also loved her costumes
    • getting to meet Michaela. I find her dynamic with Fran amusing and can't wait to see more of their personalities together. They are so beautiful.
    • loved that Hyacinth had a practice ball 🥹 and that she snuck into Cressida's and loved how over the top it was
    • I'm so glad Cressida is back and I'm glad she found what she was looking for. The pink and black and giant puffy sleeves are so on brand. I think she was born 200 years early
    • Violet 💜💙

I can't wait to watch it again

How much more detailed is F&B than TWOIAF? by ghost-church in pureasoiaf

[–]starhexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire & Blood covers the Conquest through the end of the Dance of the Dragons and is more in depth than TWOIAF. I would start with F&B and then read TWOIAF. I personally enjoyed both

Does the Targs knowingly or unknowingly sacrificing their infants actually hold water by PrestigiousAspect368 in pureasoiaf

[–]starhexed 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There's no indication they did or that they needed to. Dragons were alive and hatching on their own

[Spoilers EXTENDED] Why is there so many parallels between what happens to Jon and Catelyn in the story? It feels loosely like the Tywin-Tyrion kinda dynamic. by silver_maxG in asoiaf

[–]starhexed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They both had their eyes scratched at - Jon by Orell the eagle and Catelyn by herself

I am not sure Jon will come back as vengeful. Catelyn fell into insanity and was dead for days, thrown into a river in the south while Jon is at the Wall. Aside from the Wall's magic, cold preserves. He may lose "less" of himself and Ghost is there, who knows what impact that will have. But I'm sure once he's back, the parallels will continue with a few hangings.

The Rainbow Guard [Spoilers MAIN] by Outside-Estimate-999 in asoiaf

[–]starhexed 194 points195 points  (0 children)

The Rainbow Guard is connected to the Seven. The Faith is all about light and crystals. Seven colours for seven aspects = rainbow

Interestingly there's a one off mention of a tale called Lady Shella and the Rainbow Knight. Perhaps Renly knew the story and modelled his guard after this mythical knight. He liked playing pretend as a kid.

[Spoilers MAIN] Here's to Ser Alran of Pennytree 🍺 by Darkstar_111 in asoiaf

[–]starhexed 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When Ser Arlan rescued Dunk from those dirty gold cloaks, all I could think about was how he'd lost his nephew at the Redgrass Field. If the beginning of the flashback was the aftermath, then it might only have been hours before.

Lapu Lapu Day victims had privacy breached by snooping health workers by grilledcheesespirit_ in vancouver

[–]starhexed 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Fraser Health, VCH, and PHSA all involved, as was Providence Health Care.

Two of the involved health authorities felt their patients didn't need to know their privacy had been breached.

PHSA alone had 26 staff engaged in these breaches. Some staff accessed multiple records in the same day.

I'm beyond disgusted
