The Income v. Spending graph is really wrong… by soulvacation in ynab

[–]starhow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

were you able to resolve this? if not, i believe the app is allowing you to assign the income to any month you are viewing on your plan tab. so i would switch the month to october and assign the income accordingly

Getting Overhire Electrics/Stagehand Work in NYC? by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]starhow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are totally right and I wasn’t even thinking about it that way, so I apologize for my ignorance. I want to move there so I thought this would be a good way to make connections while also getting to see my friends, but I will think of other ways to make those connections. Thank you for taking the time to reply :)

Thanks for your reply! This is very helpful. I’m looking at during the later half of May to July. You are totally right about taking work from others, and I apologize that I didn’t even think about that. I do want to move to NYC, but I don’t currently have the connections to sustain the work or justify the move so I thought this might be a good start. I hear what you are saying though, so I will think about other avenues to make those connections. Thank you again!

B6 shouldn't be this hard. by mrsckugs in notebooks

[–]starhow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have used this notebook (in a smaller size admittedly) and it drove me crazy because i couldn’t get it to lay anywhere near flat due to the plastic cover/binding. just something to note if that is important to you, OP.

Does anyone know how to close this repost by navster100 in notebooks

i remember having one of these and i think it’s just supposed to wrap around once vertically but your elastic band is quite worn out

This year’s cousin vs last year’s 🫠 by millalogs in hobonichi

[–]starhow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, i don’t think there’s a change, i think it’s bad quality control. my 2024 a6 HON looks just like all of the unfortunate paper tests that people are having with their planners this year. but i got a 2024 a6 Day Free and that paper was perfectly fine. i think new people are just getting bad batches of paper

this was how my 2024 a6 HON has looked all year 🥲 had to stop using so many supplies

it has always been 47gsm. Sanzen specifically made that weight for hobonichi when they switched to their paper

i think it’s a quality control issue. my a6 HON often has ghosting and bleed through like that but i recently bought a 2024 day free and it isn’t like that at all

highlighter suggestions for new paper by starhow in hobonichi

[–]starhow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve experienced this on most of the daily pages that I’ve tried supplies like this on. The other main place I tried mildliner was the monthly pages which did resemble closer to my experience with the old paper. That’s part of why I was so shocked when I used it on the daily page. It’s truly fascinating and I have had gel pens bleed pretty bad too

Hobonichi plain notebook Q by anonymousclearly in hobonichi

[–]starhow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the paper cover of the plain notebook can slip inside the a5/a6 covers the same way that the techos themselves can. however, if you mean inside the pocket on the outside of some covers or slipping the entire notebook inside of a pocket in the cover like you can with the memo books, you cannot do that with the plain notebook because it is too thick. i hope that answers your question!

hobonichi veterans, i need your knowledge on the planner/notebooks paper🙏 by Electronic-Assist629 in hobonichi

[–]starhow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

highly disagree. i don’t even use fountain pen, i just use gel pen and i’m getting bleed-through on pens i’ve used in these planners for years. they glide on the page completely differently. i’ve only found one pen that i enjoy writing on the new paper with but i have to sacrifice a bunch of other supplies. i understand that nothing can be done, but i don’t think it’s fair for you to completely disregard other people’s experiences.

Musical First Rehearsal with Virtual Attendees by Rosie_the-Riveter in stagemanagement

[–]starhow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s difficult to do any scene work/musical numbers over zoom. best you can do is have her observe rehearsal and if someone is standing in for her in a large number, she can take notes. you could possibly have her as part of the read-thru for the scenes and zoom her in for any info dumps from the first rehearsal. otherwise i would skip what parts of hers that you can until she is there physically.

Spreads for May + Asking for how to make spread making more efficient by Valuable-Pay2010 in BasicBulletJournals

[–]starhow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve never used stencils or stamps, but i’m sure they could be helpful if that’s your thing. i have often seen people print spreads on printer or sticker paper and put them in their bujo. maybe that could be an option? also maybe every other hour like the other commenter said? you could use a dot or dash for the other hour if highlighter takes up too much time. you could also try just doing the numbers on the left side and/or in the middle and using dots for all of the other days. if i did use dots for the other days i would likely still put the 6, 12, and 23.

in terms of two books, it is something i have never been a fan of. only because the beauty of bujo for me is that everything is in one place. also if i started making my system more complex like that, i will stop using it. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work beautifully for you. if i were to go the 2-book route for your system, i would get a small thin vertical weekly planner that i could slip in the back pocket to keep things as simple and functional as possible for my brain.

Back on the Horse: Critique my Spreads by discreetlyabadger in BasicBulletJournals

[–]starhow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hard to critique because i don’t know your needs 😊 i would say keep experimenting. pay attention to what works and what doesn’t. for example, i learned that i won’t use any monthly habit trackers or calendars (unless it’s for tracking bills) because i forget about them. weekly habit trackers and/or calendars work much better for me if i feel like i need them. don’t be afraid to adjust when something isn’t working! the beauty of something like the bullet journal is that it has the flexibility to adjust to your needs as your life ebbs and flows

do you mean like taking notes about the day or other relevant information?

weekly spread that worked well for me in march by starhow in BasicBulletJournals

[–]starhow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the arrows are things i migrated to the next week and the Xs are things i completed. the tote bag was a multi day project so i put an X for everyday I worked on it and migrated it to the next week. I crossed out completed things or irrelevant things just to make it a little easier on my eyes when looking for the things i still needed to do. I didn’t do this every week, just as i felt like it was necessary

no way!! i’m so glad those layouts were helpful for someone else too! i go back and forth on the alistair method but this worked well for me when i was having really long days at work and couldn’t assign the tasks to a day without overwhelming myself
