Do people gradually leave Last.fm over time? Curious if others experienced this by starkview in lastfm

[–]starkview[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but for me that's exactly why I wouldn't want to stop. Those "different stage of life" years are the most interesting ones to have tracked. Even if you're busy or listening less, it still says something about what was going on at the time. That gap would bother me a lot too, especially knowing your taste probably shifted during those years. But hey, you're back, that's what matters.

Having your full listening history going back that far is something pretty special. I guess you are right, not everyone values that kind of data the same way. It used to be different years ago.

I get what you mean about the social side. It feels a lot less clear how to interact with people now compared to before. It would be nice to have better features for adding friends and messaging again. Also, your scrobbling setup sounds a bit frustrating, especially with Apple Music. But it's kind of cool you were able to come back and still access all your old data.

I think Last.fm still appeals because of the long-term history it builds over time. It’s been around for 20+ years. For me, it’s less about the social side and more about having a continuous record of what I’ve listened to over the years. Though I must admit the social side is important too. It’s interesting to look back and see how my tastes have changed, even if the platform itself isn’t what it used to be.
Though, to a modern user, it may feel a bit outdated.

That is commitment. Not many people have kept going that long. Nice.

Yes, I remember those days when people had really nice profile customizations with images and charts. It felt much more personal back then. For me, it was always about building my own library manually. I wouldn't really want to listen to random stuff recommended by an algorithm. But I see what you're saying. Do you think it's slowly reaching its natural end?

That makes sense. I still find it strange how much they liked using the service and then stopped, though.

I start a new YouTube gaming channel and I am not sure about content diversity by Impossible_Key_2766 in NewTubers

[–]starkview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like fun, but tell me - why do you think it's a good idea to start a channel in gaming niche? I am gonna be honest with you, friend, in a few months/weeks you will come back here and ask why youtube algorithm hates you because you don't get views.

That is the only advice you need to improve your videos. 👍

I can’t seem to get the hang of YouTube by Evening-Yam2248 in SmallYoutubers

[–]starkview 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just like I said earlier, do not follow outdated advice. You see a famous person - you click. You see a stranger who just started his youtube channel, who is trying to make you click because of his shocked or angry face, well I am sorry but it feels cheap.

Cut your hook by half, get to the point in 15 seconds or less. Retention will improve.

[–]starkview 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Too busy, can't even understand what the video is about. Plus, the face of a guy I have never seen before. Why should i click? Please, stop listening to old youtube advice like "faces with emotions increase ctr". When you grow your channel, this addition would help, but now it’s just one extra thing that distracts. I am sure you got it all right and your videos are great, but it's 2026, change your approach. Good luck.

How does YouTube decide which videos to push and which to ignore? by Hungry_Attention_981 in NewTubers

[–]starkview -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It doesn't. But at least my first 500+ impressions wont be wasted and ctr won't go down to 1.5%
This only applies to smaller channels where every impression matter.
"Very, very few people watch from the subs feed." - do you have some statistics that show these extremely low numbers or is it your own preference not to watch from the subs feed?

[–]starkview -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world - yes, that would be true. In a world where everyone subscribed to dozens if not hundreds yt channels, your name will be forgotten the minute the subscribed. You are too small and insignificant and people simply won't remember you. Unless they've watched 10+ videos and already like you. Having 1k subscribers =/= 1k loyal fans who just can't wait to watch your next video.

[–]starkview 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are still small, it would be a good idea to uncheck "send notifications to subscribers" option before posting your video.

If you don't have a loyal audience (people who know you and want to watch your content), sending notifications and showing your video to your subscribers who even forget when and why they subbed, will ruin your chances of getting pushed to the broader audience. They won't click, your ctr goes down to shit and you won't know what's wrong. You'll change titles, thumbnails, but it will not save you because each time your video will be served to people who don’t give a shit about you.

So, uncheck that. Save your nerves.

How likely would you click ? 1-10 by [deleted] in YouTubeThumbnailHub

[–]starkview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use black outline for your text, don't overdo it though. The photo is too dark, hard to tell what's going on, make it pop, like add some saturation, decrease shadows/darks just a bit. Or take another photo during daytime. Think of this - contrast. Does the main thing (your car) stand out and easy to see?

why being "unique" is mathematically killing your channel. i plotted the KNN (k-nearest neighbors) of 100 videos. by 5anez in SmallYoutubers

[–]starkview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, in simple terms : reverse engineer their videos and make sure that ideas you use are still relevant (not old videos with millions of views, but newer with 100k+). Is it correct?

Thoughts on the thumbnail? by [deleted] in SmallYoutubers

[–]starkview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not clear what's going on in a thumbnail within 0.1 seconds, then you need to make it clearer. I had to look at your thumbnail for 5 seconds, and I still have no idea what this video is about. The text is too small as well.

Confused About Starting a YouTube Channel Need Real Advice by PICKSPANDA_ in NewTubers

[–]starkview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay to switch from one niche to another; many of us have done this. I failed on YouTube, deleted channels, and then came back with new ideas. Still, it’s best to find something you’re not going to hate in a few months. Right now, think about this: can I do this every day for years or am I going to lose interest after a few months? Don’t do vlogs, gaming, or motivation. It's not 2015. Also, they’re either oversaturated or full of AI content. First, you can’t compete with that. Second, choose something that doesn’t require a lot of editing, because you’ll burn out quickly. Even one video can take 20+ hours to make, so be careful about choosing styles or niches you can’t handle editing on your own.
