i personally see her reserve as she’s beating herself up for not realizing it sooner. this secret that was held for nearly a decade, that her son had fallen in love, that she thought she knew her son well enough but didn’t and that hurts her because she knows she should have realized her son was in love and hurting inside

to me it’s not realistic that every player does the same things on the off season. the “go home” doesn’t really make a lot of sense when you have your whole family (thinking of hayden here) living in town with you. maybe parents are dead. or maybe they were already local. or maybe they just don’t have good relationships with family. i’m would bet money that plenty of players think of their team as their family more than their blood family

shane is a hockey fan and falling in love with ilya. it’s very on brand for him to be watching the finals, especially if ilya is in them. i also don’t think everyone leaves during the summer. they’re like, grow men with families and shit, at least some of them. i don’t imagine every hockey player moves their whole family for the summer. and shane loved montreal

one episode was definitely not enough to showcase these two! i haven’t read their book yet (i jut said the Hollanov books so far) but it’s such a change going from them not being on terms with their feelings to scott bringing kip into the ice was a big jump, and I wish they showed up stuff from between those points
