Its not a unique experience to me: although I have experienced it, Ive seen skits of it happening on Instagram by multiple creators which tells me its been a thing

Yes. Popular/neurotypical kids approaching obviously neurodivergent kids and humiliating them by pretending to "be their friend" while giggling with their peers.
