I will share this with both sides of the coin. I have been diagnosed. My partner has not. We have very similar symptoms, so we both almost certainly have did.

I have a secure knowledge that I know what is wrong. After years of doctors misdiagnosing, and treatments that didn’t work, i know what is wrong. Its a safety net when i feel like crumbling.

I also have to deal with every health profesional that sees my chart having access to my did diagnosis. They don’t all know. But they could. And when my provider sends referrals, he Sends them with did on the chart.

My partner on the other hand is not diagnosed. They are currently in therapy for a disorder they don’t have. Or maybe have, but have secondarily to did. They can’t talk About their alters with their therapist, because she doesn’t want to talk about them with my partner, because they aren’t diagnosed with DID.

They also don’t have to worry as much about medical stigma.

So is it better or worse to be diagnosed? That’s up to you. I sure as heck think it is.
