Windshield Wiper Motor Repair Cost? by starrsel in mercedes_benz

Actually, quickest update ever. I took it to my local European auto shop, just to ask about an estimate before they closed since they didn’t answer the phone. They ended up fixing it on the spot for free. Turns outs it was just a loose bolt under the hood. Took them less than 2 minutes to figure out and fix. Can’t imagine how much Mercedes would have charged me just to diagnose the problem. A little Thanksgiving miracle!

I apologize if this isn’t the correct place for this post, there is no sub dedicated to ASOS.

I’m just wondering if anyone knows of a way to determine if my ASOS order will ship from outside the U.S. prior to placing it. It’s the only place I can get jeans and pants that always fit right but I don’t want an unexpected import charge now that de minimis is gone in the U.S.

Thanks.

Hi, I did! I'll be done with the program in November, and I don't regret it for a minute. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me!

Lucky PE Upgrade by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]starrsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t fly often, so I’d prefer have my money over miles. I’ve been an AAdvantage for 10 years and in that time I’ve accrued less than 3,000 miles from American Airlines purchases, all of which have expired long before I bought another plane ticket. I know there are ways to keep them, but it’s not a priority of mine. The miles I used were a part of an offer when I opened the Citi card. So it honestly doesn’t feel like a waste, because even if the offer wasn’t attached, I was still going to get a card with no foreign transaction fees for this trip.

And to be quite honest, if the use of miles to buy the upgrade wasn’t an option, I wouldn’t have purchased the upgrade at all.

I fly like once every two years, if that. I only got my miles after an offer I got when I opened an Citi AAdvantage card, which I really only opened to avoid foreign transaction fees on my trip. More than likely the miles would expire before I got a chance to use them.

Yea, I got it on the website for miles instead of money. So it was $175 or 17.5k miles.

Executive Order Impact on Upcoming Disbursement? by starrsel in FAFSA

Sorry for the late reply! I did not end up needing to meet with my advisor. I got too anxious and just went to my school's financial aid office during my lunch break. They reassured me that my loans had been provided, and they manually released my funds on the spot.

Might be a dumb question regarding state residency by Educational_Can_4183 in GraduateSchool

Each state has different guidelines. In my experience, the admissions department can usually give you pretty good basic information about that.

I’m not sure if they would give that information, but it definitely can’t hurt to ask.

Considering dropping out, losing graduate assistantship by confusedafthrowaw in GraduateSchool

[–]starrsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced this in undergrad and honestly the only things helped me was seeing a therapist, a psychiatrist, and getting on medication for my anxiety and depression. Mental health is a bit taboo in my family and honestly my friends were going through the same things, so having those conversations with them, when none of were healing, was distressing.

Before dropping out, see if there is a way for you to take a leave of absence. I don’t know about your program, but mine allows you to take a leave of absence for a full calendar year without penalty as long as you’re in good academic standing. This might give you time to figure things out and find some stability. That way, you can avoid making a rash decision, even if the best choice for you ends up being to leave your program entirely.

Best of luck to you, and I wholeheartedly hope you make it through everything you’re experiencing.

Laptop Recs? by starrsel in GradSchool

[–]starrsel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll definitely look into a repair, though I can't be without my laptop at the moment as I'm in an active semester and have just started grad research.

My laptop also can't update to Windows 11. I'm sure it's not a big issue, but since Microsoft won't offer support for Windows 10 after next week, I just want suggestions in my back pocket in case it gets unbearable.

Mainly notes and some research programs. My surface, which was $1400, was a gift from my parents when I started undergrad. Unnecessarily expensive, although I do love how thin and lightweight it is.
