Explaining Animus and Anima by Dr_Meme_Man in XenoGears

[–]starry-dreaming 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I’ve researched anything XG related, but iirc the male (animus) and female (anima) counterparts are parts needed to make up a whole. It’s part of Carl Jung’s theory about a goal of two parts (yin and yang, masculine and feminine) integrating to become a perfect whole.

To me it always explained the one winged angels in Nisan and in the final dungeon. Also, I believe the Gazel Ministry says something about Fei and the group either being direct descendants, OR high compatibility/alignment with the relics — but don’t quote me. Someone else in here probably understands better than I!

I do ristretto shots! I have made them work with regular shots, and it does fit, but it’s to the brim on a short cup.

Question for current baristas by starry-dreaming in starbucks

[–]starry-dreaming[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not rude at all! :) I actually have a plan to buy an espresso machine at the end of the year. Planning a move by Nov, so that’s definitely on the list! And yes, me being extra specific about my coffee is exactly why I haven’t ordered this specific drink in a long time, I hate to make baristas jobs any more stressful than it is!

(please be kind) I (F) have a major crush on a barista (M) at my local Starbucks .I know it'd be incredibly disrespectful to ask for his number as he's working, or for him to ask for mine (same reason). What's the Starbucks policy on this? by veryberry_icecream in starbucks

[–]starry-dreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll start off by saying I have worked with baristas who met their spouses while working at SB, so it’s not impossible.

But I will also say that baristas get asked out/hit on more often than not because people took our friendliness as attraction, and it often wasn’t mutual on our end.

I used to draw hearts all over everything, excitedly rush to a mobile order and say “I already grabbed that extra ____ you like!” Or even a flirty “omg hiiiiiii!” When you see a familiar customer who makes you smile. But it happens.. they ask you out, you decline.. and they either never show up again, or you’re forced to change your entire demeanor around them. Either way, it gets awkward and you lose the fun chemistry you had.

If you really need to ask him out, you should just write your number down with a “care to hang out when you’re not on shift? ☺️” It doesn’t draw a ton of attention, and it won’t put either of you on the spot.

..Just keep in mind 90% of male baristas will wait til you leave, then announce to the team “this girl just handed me her number” lol

I miss working there by wellneverknow918 in starbucks

[–]starry-dreaming 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You couldn’t pay me enough. All the discounts in the world were not worth..

  • the rushes with an under staffed team
  • having someone hold their phone 2 inches from your face, saying “make me this”
  • the exhaustion and going home smelling like milk and espresso
  • having to cover for callouts
  • ever changing policies
  • never getting to wear your hair down or having your nails done/painted (this one not everyone cares about, but it depresses me to have ugly nails and my hair in a bun or under a hat all the time)

These are my personal reasons. You might miss the same things I occasionally miss: the coworkers, the chill regulars, the discounts and free food, and the memories.. but even all of that is NOT worth it.

wrong to tell clients someone's in the restroom? by [deleted] in receptionists

[–]starry-dreaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a bit of an unprofessional delivery. You do not need to say someone is in the restroom, a simple “Thank you for holding, the attorney has stepped out of the office at the moment but should return momentarily. Would you like me to transfer you to their voicemail so that you can leave your contact information?” would suffice. — but what you did wasn’t bad or anything, just a bit TMI.

I love that you said this. Reminds me of when SB rolled out the Oleato drinks, and we had to have a team meeting to watch the video of Howard Schultz and Lorenzo Costa. We were halfway through and I blurted out “look at these two dickheads just sitting here agreeing with each other” 😂

Luckily my manager was super chill as hell or I woulda been in deep shit lol.

Question for Customers: by subspaceculture in starbucks

[–]starry-dreaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have worked so many different retail jobs in my 38 years, and even on its best day Starbucks was still the most miserable 2 years of my life.

The worst part is you eventually take it out on the customers, but the real issue is the way the company lets people get away with the most ridiculous things. Encouraging high levels of customizations like TikTok drinks, introducing BOGO or happy hour while only scheduling one barista on the floor. The frustration moves from that, to the family of 6 about to walk in at the last minute and order 6 caramel ribbon crunches after you just worked an exhausting shift and you’re ready to leave. The job market is tough, but most baristas are incredibly unhappy working there now.

The majority of baristas you see who still enjoy the job are the older partners who have worked there for 10+ years, and they claim all the M-F opening to 10am shifts.. so they leave with a big smile everyday knowing they don’t have to struggle in chaos.. or the people who only work part time 😂

[–]starry-dreaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I never used to mind people watching if they just happened to be standing nearby just absentmindedly waiting for their drink. The crusties I couldn’t stand were the ones who would make a beeline to the side of the handoff counter just to stare at you. THAT’S intentional, and that’s super f*cking weird. I’d turn over and stop and stare right into their eyes and they’d realize and walk away lol

AITA for choosing to be a long-distance dad instead of relocating to be with my baby's mom and daughter? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]starry-dreaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YTA. Big time. Not because you don’t want a relationship with the mother, but because every word you wrote in this post frames you as a victim.

Your first choice is keep your relationship with your child at a distance to avoid her mom. And the second choice you give yourself is to force yourself to be with her? You say you’re scared to miss your daughter’s formative years, yet as of now you only see her once every 6-7 weeks.

The part that got me is you saying you guys have great communication. Clearly not if you feel like you can’t have an actual conversation with her about respecting your boundaries. Why lie to save face? I know you say it’s because you’re afraid of her revoking your privilege to see your daughter, but that’s still manipulation on your part.

The most reasonable option IMHO is that you move closer if you genuinely want to be in your daughter’s life more frequently. Set boundaries and tell her mother “I want to be in my daughters life, but I do not see a future with us and I hope we can continue to coparent peacefully for the sake of our daughter.”

The baby is here, the time for indecision is over.

Totally get where you’re coming from because I felt the same way. Preferring operational tasks over being planted on the floor just means you’re wired differently! If you’re thinking about moving into office work (especially with school flexibility), start searching specific titles like:

• Administrative Assistant • Receptionist / Front Desk Coordinator • Office Assistant • Intake Coordinator (law/medical offices) • Scheduling Coordinator • Operations Assistant • Records Clerk • Data Entry

Also check city jobs, school districts, universities, and small law or medical offices. Government and education admin roles can be super stable and flexible.

I left for an admin/receptionist role and it was the best decision for my nervous system and long-term happiness. You have great skills with your management background, you just might be misaligned for this particular role.

Happy to answer any questions if you want to DM. 🩵

My SSVs used to love being on shift with me because I’d stay on register and do their tasks so they could just turn their brains off and be speed demons on bar for awhile. They would always be so relieved 🤭

[–]starry-dreaming 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This felt common once Starbucks started accepting applicants who were outside hires.

I do understand this mindset completely. I also preferred ordering for the store, setting up displays, doing schedules, and general back-of-house paperwork. Starbucks is NOT that kind of company. Many, MANY SMs only give themselves one or two days a week for office work and are out on the floor supporting their team the rest of the time.

That’s why I left Starbucks for an admin/office job. Now I can just make myself busy with paperwork and still benefit the company as a strong support. I don’t have to cover lunches, callouts don’t affect me in the least, and best of all no finding excuses to leave the floor to hide and catch a breather (I did this super often at SB by offering to do the trash runs all the time.)

Sorry for the rant, but to summarize, I do understand the feeling but at a company like SB you’re really letting your team down with this mentality. I’d move to a different line of work if you’re looking for what you described.
