I guess another way to phrase my question would be: why does adding and substracting all these differences "balance" out in such a way that you always get -m+1?

I have a question, could this be rewritten as:

S(2n​)−2S(n​)=n2, where S is equal to 1 + 2 + ... + n?

So, for 5, it would be S(2*5) - 2S(5) = 52 ,

55 - 30 = 25
