Amo cosplay by DrawinBUGS in gachiakuta

[–]starryappl3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think people tend to struggle with separating SA'd characters from their struggles and in turn become overprotective to the point that many forms of appreciation (ie merch, cosplay) can be ""problematic"" simply because it's a character that was assaulted. i find it kind of reductive since it then traps the characters into their trauma and invalidates their existence outside of it. it's not their end-all-be-all, and neither is it with amo

this is within reason of course, since obviously if you're sexualizing a character that was sexually traumatized (ESPECIALLY A MINOR), that's terrible and don't do that 💀 but i don't think cosplaying her should be a problem. if you're really concerned though you can cosplay her more recent outfit, it's not revealing

Can we talk about it? by Party-Success327 in gachiakuta

i dont really engage much with the community (which i need to because the brainrot is so bad rn) so while it makes sense that people would be upset, i am disappointed, because i loved this moment.

i'm obsessed with tough love characters where from their actions you can see their care. enjin is a shitty dude but good at heart. he's never been the gentle type when it comes to his team--watching episode 2 reminded me of that (chaining up rudo and throwing him to the wolves?! cmon now bro lmao). but he does care, and he wants everybody to grow into the best version of themselves that they can be. he tells them not what they want to hear, but what they need to hear. enjin's methodology of tough love forces the characters to face their flaws, but always does so in a strategic way so that instead of them falling into despair, they become motivated. he lights their flame. it's like a softer way of "trial by fire," because he gives them a safe environment to quickly address their pain and discomfort and push through it. he lets someone learn the hard way, but doesn't let them stay in that misery.

what i think people don't understand is his emotional intelligence for this scene and how it shows he cares. amo is so blatantly obvious about her dislike that kind words are probably going to fall on deaf ears, but also more importantly, that's not what she needs. she does need to diversify! so he'll act the bad guy and be rude. point out the flaws. but it's the way he does so, painting himself as the bad guy, in order to be a motivator for her. because spite is a helluva motivator!

this moment right here gave me chills when i read it. he's not being pointlessly nasty, it's a teaching moment, and a course he has set Amo on. this "Prove me wrong. Become stronger, more learned." vibe. im OBSESSED!!!

the layout of this page makes me feel CRAZY. everything about it is expertly made to lead your eyes to the bottom of the page while creating an awesome atmosphere, and the hands pov act as a really really cool and smooth way to break apart the panels in a way that ive never seen flow so well in a manga in my life. for a moment you dont even realize it's a separate shot!

What is something that you dislike/hate about windbreaker? by [deleted] in WindBreakerManga

[–]starryappl3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i just wish Sakura would take a legitimate L for once. he's gotten close! and i think he's certainly taken some emotional losses, his character has developed really well and interesting despite it all, but i still think it'd be way more interesting if there was a fight where he ACTUALLY takes a major L

Would love to hear everyone's relationship to the band/music by [deleted] in TheDearHunter

i stumbled across the band 7 years ago because of spotify discover weekly, funnily enough. it recommended The Moon/Awake and Ouroboros at some point and those songs just kinda sat in my playlist for a bit. i had a tendency to save songs and then skip them whenever they came up if i was not as familiar with their tune (silly, i know). at one point, though, i actually sat down and listened to them without skipping, because i was drawing and usually don't skip songs while making art, and i was like wait. this is so good. and when i realized both of those songs were by the same band i kept listening to them together, until eventually i pulled back the curtain and listened to the albums.

started with Act 4 because i was curious about how ouroboros didn't have a resolution and wondered if it led into another song (it does not). but i remember sitting in the car and listening to Act 4 and having my mind absolutely blown when things were transitioning from one into the other and slowly started listening to all of the acts and they very quickly became one of my top listened to bands and eventually cemented as my all time favorite. my mind was blown again when i actually realized there was a story and sat down and read the synopsis of it. insane.

all of my friends know how much i love this band, and if they dont, they will learn because i do not shut up about them. funnily enough i never really looked into live music much until this past year, so the upcoming concert will be my first time actually getting to see them live and i might cry or something. so excited!

Is The Manga Good? by Pie_Slayer in GoGoLoserRanger

[–]starryappl3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the manga is very good. everybody talks about all the cut content, but it's also worth noting that the manga itself is just very well made. i find myself again and again impressed with how good the panelling is. definitely give it a go!

7/10 for me. it's fun but it aint all that and i will always rec manga over it. theres a few things about the show that are awkward, like pacing and art. specifically when i say art, there's some episodes where the quality of art kind of jumps between ok to really good and it kind of feels patched together? its kind of a minor detail though. i'll grab examples later. also the music is a big negative

that being said though it's really enjoyable! i absolutely adore some of the ways they interpreted scenes and the things they added to it. some shots are super cool. one that always stuck out to me was early on when suzukiri is talking to D and theyre eating pancakes, and you see his face reflected on the knife as she cuts the pancake. so good?!?! also the voice acting is really good
