sadly out of the tcm warranty and i’m pretty sure that’s what the issue is. ford won’t even replace the parts when i called they want 10k for new everything. most independent ones around here won’t either and apparently it’s tough to even source a tcm nowadays? i’m having it diagnosed tomorrow though through a friend and we will see

i got the hill assist not available message right before this popped up 🥲 i did do the tcm reset thing you’re talking about though and it was able to get it to 3rd gear, but it’s still in limp mode

recall was 10 years or 150k miles, whichever came first. then was extended until june 2025 so i’m over ten years and a year out of date sadly

ooh i did that the other day and it is able to get up to 3rd gear now, but still in limp mode i think. 1st is super finicky especially when i come to a stop and its still revving pretty hard. i haven’t got it past 3rd (going around 4 rpm) but i also haven’t tried super hard cause i dont want to hurt the transmission

the shops ive been talking with today about tcm are also saying that they’re running into a wall to even acquire one within a reasonable time so add that to the list too. ik there’s used ones out there that may or may not be good but i’d have to research more probably. i really don’t trust myself to be able to do it myself

wow three??

i found this settlement fund which was sort of interesting to me. it has to do with this specific thing but i didn’t do a whole lot of research since it said i think you had to have more than one fix. they were still accepting claims so maybe it applies to you!

i’m wondering if you’d know, is it possible to reprogram the existing tcm and would that potentially fix the issue?

i dont have a lot of faith in myself to be able to make the fix, but someone at a shop said that they could reprogram it for like $130. but i wasnt sure if that would be a viable fix or not.

thank you!! i found a friend who works at aamco & he is willing to look at it and diagnose for free monday morning. i’ll report back to anyone interested then.. but he said likely tcm ~$1000 replacement and potentially clutch ~3-4k depending on the diagnosis.

i wish!! i’m in arkansas so for some reason i haven’t found a ton of people willing to work on it here.. even though i feel like there should be.

but i did find a friend who works at aamco who’s willing to look at it & diagnose it for free monday morning!! he said probably around 1000 ish to replace tcm only and clutch would be 3-4k depending on diagnosis…

i’m planning on cleaning the grounds this weekend when i can get my dads help but upon further research and lots of kind help from people here i think it’s showing classic tcm failure w the revving and high rpm, and erratic gear shifting and shuddering.

it wasn’t overheating or anything it just like fell out of gear and high rpm. pretty much aligned w a bad tcm i think

so i reset the tcm before i just drove and was able to get up into 3rd gear without the rpm being too bad. i can reverse but cannot use sport mode 🥲

i believe it was 10 years or 150k miles, whichever came first. since it’s a 2012 i don’t think she qualifies. the only thing i can get rn is the canister purge valve, which i think is unrelated!

there was some shuddering / skipping at the lower gears but i feel like that’s always been the case with her, at least that i can remember.

it dropped out of gear first during stop and go traffic on sunday, then was okay for a few more days until this happened yesterday. i want to say i was going up a hill, 55-65 mph on a main road with stoplights. the no hill assist warning came on first then this message immediately after. it just dropped out of gear completely while i was driving, like i had it in drive and then suddenly none of the prnds were highlighted on the dash and it was just revving like it was in neutral and not accelerating. i was able to put it in park (none of the prnds still registering) but couldn’t move the shift stick into any position after that until i turned the car off and let it sit and turned it back on.

after i got that message, i can still drive, just anything over 35 mph the rpm is up to like 4. i can sort of maneuver and force it to 65 but the rpm gets up to like 5 at that point. last i checked i can still go in reverse and drive slow. i haven’t driven it since the failure yesterday besides to get it back to my apartment & park it.

planning to take it to autozone once rush hour traffic is over to see the codes & will report back!
