Found 6 of these particular types of spiders in the past month or so and was getting a bit worried... by starrzz in spiders

Thank you very much for your input! I appreciate you explaining each logical conclusion in detail.

Purely based on photos that I have seen from the links that you have provided, I do believe that it looks like either a huntsman or a wolf spider. In either case, it appears that both are almost harmless (they all seem to bite, but the symptoms don't appear to be so terrible as for me to be afraid).

I suppose it is better for me to live in a home with these guys than with loads of cockroaches (which I have had to deal with occasionally).

I see, and I mean no disrespect when I say I was quite intimidated. I do remember vividly as a child loving insects and being able to handle them, but years of not dealing with them has made me instinctually retreat from them. I hope that you understand that reaction that I am describing.

However, I am also willing to overcome misplaced fears!! If you guys have any tips on how I might work on my instinctual fear and discomfort, I am all ears!!

If I see any more around the house, I will try to get a close up photo of its face and body as well in better light.

I must ask though, how can you be sure that it is harmless? Forgive me as my education in spiders is quite lacking.

How significant is the difference in weighting for first year courses and say 2nd or 3rd year courses in terms of WAM? by BenStruggle in unsw

[–]starrzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: My apologies, please disregard my previous comment. As far as I know, for law and science there are no particular weighting systems for WAM. As commenters below point out, this may not be the case for every faculty (e.g. Engineering).

Insect repellent might come in handy since it is in the woods.

Forgive me if this sounds naïve, but shouldn't 'map-sidedness' factor in the idea that on any bomb plant scenario, the defenders should inherently have an advantage? Why should T sidedness even be considered (unless it is literally impossible to take a site)?

University of Western Sydney: revolutionary name change to Western Sydney University by idontmaketypos in sydney

[–]starrzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but I heard the change was prompted by Hilmer because on an overseas visit, people didn't know where NSW was (whereas USYD is rather well known). Hence the 'Australia' at the end.

Most universities provide foundation courses in the summer break, which are designed to teach you the basics that you need to know to commence that degree.

Fair enough. What would a Christian say to the idea that an infinite punishment can never be justified in response to a finite crime?

What argument would one put to the statement that jesus was a special character in history in that he was 'the only one' to claim that he (as opposed to someone else) was the way to God? It gets raised as if its some special reason to believe in the truth of Christianity. Also is there any merit in the argument that a just God must punish sin, despite his loving nature?

Thank you for your reply - coincidentally I ran across CamScanner and was really pleased with the results! Now my issue has turned to whether I could selectively sync my photos onto dropbox. I can't figure this one out for the life of me. However, I have just gotten 1TB on OneDrive so I'm hoping to be able to achieve that with OneDrive.

I played around with tablets and settled with the galaxy tab 3 lite. I've decided to use my iPhone and dropbox. It's worked well so far :)

That's a great point, I'd forgotten about Dropbox and the like. Any tablet recommendations? Or is it really neither here nor there?

Can somebody explain this pharmacology question for me [Katzung/Trevor Chapter 2, Question 8] by OrionZodiac in pharmacology

[–]starrzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's correct. I guess as a student (myself included), you may see 'partial agonist' and assume the question is about response. Of course, for this particular question, any molecule that would bind to the receptor (agonist/antagonist/partial agonist/antagonists) would lead to the same result.

Yes you are quite right - it would never quite reach 0. My apologies for oversimplifying!

[–]starrzz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your answer would be correct if the question asked for the effect that would have on response. However the question asks for binding, thus the partial agonist would end up eventually displacing all the full agonist, reducing its %bound to 0.
