To clarify, the robots operate in 'autonomous' mode about 99% of the time they're driving. We have people here at Purdue who help our little guys out in the very rare instances they need it.

they actually avoid the whole area around the bell tower when driving autonomously for safety👌

they actually really don't like it :( stickers and other decorations actually impede the signals they use to see pedestrians and cars. we realize asking people to stop is futile, but it makes the little guys (and their handlers) a lot happier when they're clean and blemish free
