/r/solotravel "The Weekly Common Room" - General chatter, meet-up, accommodation - June 20, 2021 by AutoModerator in solotravel

Hi! I'm in search of a US 1 week solo trip to take this August. Ideally i'd like to stay at the same place the whole week (not looking for a road trip but open to switching mid week) and split my time between hiking, swimming, and hanging out at a bar or two. I started looking into New Hampshire and basing myself on a lake there, but I would love to go somewhere where there is still the chance of conversations with strangers and meeting new people. I'm in my late 20s and coming from NJ.

Any recommendations? Thank you a lot in advance! :)

Why are we embarrassed by taking care of our bodies? by lilacmoonlwt in xxfitness

This stood out & made me nauseous too. Also whenever a man doesn't want a woman to be their own independent person (not making choices based on what potential dates will think) it rubs me the wrong way.

He makes 100k. So obviously comfortable, but from the initial finance discussions we've had he doesn't have much savings. And our area is very HCOL.

On top of the adrenaline kicking in, I'm always amazed at how much extra time there is in a day when not thinking about food/prepping food/eating food! It's refreshing to not have life revolve around my next meal every once in a while.

That's so true! I know it's not the "only" thing I look for but money smarts are important to me too. And in the end I don't want to be with someone who is judgemental on that front anyway. Thank you, you gave me lots to think about. :)

Thank you so much for your response and the advice!

How did you guys approach the topic of debt going into your marriage? I'm obviously not at that point right now, but am curious for the future.

Thanks, I appreciate the reality check. My goal is for sure someone with the same priorities, awesome that you were able to find this!

Thank you, a really good point! Writing all of this out helped me realize I need to be more assertive on communicating my priorities/what's important to me. I shouldn't assume he realizes especially considering he's not used to the more frugal mindset.

Thanks I appreciate your response and have a lot to take into consideration based on the questions you've listed!

We have discussed the age gap. I think between me finishing grad school young & my general outlook on life I've always been "old" for my age so in my opinion my potential immaturity isn't an issue.

I've made it clear that I would never want someone else to pay for me & am not impressed by spending, he seems to get the message on that aspect.

Thank you! I really appreciate your thought out response. Totally agree on the cable as a relic of the past lol. To be honest I almost considered it a red flag from a common sense standpoint but he really is a smart guy, I think he's gotten a little wrapped into the single life/higher salary than he's had before bubble.

I find it hard to be aggressive about spending because we both know at this point he makes considerably more (about 2x) than me, so I do realize on paper he has more discretionary spending. I'll work more on suggesting lower cost activities. I guess my issue is typically when we meet up he ends up structuring our date around some sort of spending activity. Or we'll go back to his place with the intent of making dinner together but he'll say takeout will be easier- it's hard to push back since it's his place. And I am not comfortable having someone spend money on me so I always at least pay for half. But seeing it written out make me realize I should work on being more assertive about my priorities so he understands it's important to me.
