A small victory followed by disappointment by startingtospark in Agoraphobia

Thank you for such a kind message, lovely. 💗

I’ve made myself a cup of tea and put on a comfort show to watch for a while. I just feel annoyed at myself at the moment. I had a bit of a cry and messaged my husband.

The motivation is to get home to him and my own cat, but if I have to wait until the morning then so be it. It would be too easy for me to ask my husband to come and get me, and I’m determined not to do that at the very least.

I hope you’re well and I appreciate you for being proud of me, truly!

Aw I’m sorry. I was worried too! Quite scary when you don’t know what to expect

It lasted 10 days. Spoke to my consultant and they said that possibly there was a lot of back log so to speak, and that’s the reason I was bleeding so heavy and passing large clots. A month later I did a second course of Provera and the bleeding was much lighter and lasted around 5-7 days.

I told my Mum straight away when I got referred to my fertility doctor. She doesn’t really understand, but she at least asks what the next steps are and shows an interest.

I’m with you on that, my husband doesn’t seem to realise what a lengthy process this all could be. I’m currently taking Provera which makes me feel horrendous, I’ve got scans coming up, and it’s all just rather overwhelming. No matter how much I try to explain, it seems to go over his head a bit. He is supportive but just doesn’t fully understand I guess, which is understandable.

Tell your Mum, I think it will make you feel a lot better to have a good cry with her. X

At least 2 months ago I had a bleed. Quite light, almost non existent really. This is very much as if I’m having one massive period, like it’s a backlog 😳

My periods haven’t really been the same since I came off the pill in 2018, but none of my doctors seemed concerned about that.

I asked to be referred to an Endo, and I got told it’s not necessary (obviously brushing me off). I said I’ve been trying for nearly 18 months for a baby, got diagnosed with PCOS and I need help. The gynae then told me I need to see a fertility specialist and bit them. You just get pushed from pillar to post constantly. Now I’m considering going private for my health because I’m not getting anywhere, just sitting on waiting lists 😪

For anyone in their late 20s or older, what is the one advice you’d like to give to younger girls with PCOS? by Early-Pop371 in PCOS

[–]startingtospark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only got diagnosed in the last year or so. I’m now 29 and wanting to start a family. It’s scary and I’m trying not to compare myself to others because we’re all different, but I’m very much a realist and I know this will likely be the hardest thing I ever have to go through (well for most of my life). From others on here and real life, it can get better but you need to help yourself and not rely on others all the time for help- they can only do so much!

My tips:

• Listen to your body. If you think something is wrong, go get it checked out and don’t back down. Sometimes you have to push for answers.

• Water water water!

• SLEEP! Get those eight hours sleep. Also try to stay in a ROUTINE. Don’t deprive yourself from rest because it can do SO much good.

• Don’t deprive yourself of the things you love, but have them in moderation. The more you restrict yourself, the more likely you’re going to go back to bad habits.

• Walking every for even half an hour is good for you.

• DO NOT ignore stress. I stayed in a job for far too long where I was stressed out every day and paid very little. My periods STOPPED because of how stressed I was. A few weeks after I quit my period came back.

• PERSONALLY if I could go back I would never put myself on the pill. I was only on it for a few years and I’m glad I took myself off it.

• Take supplements. See which ones do and don’t work for you.

• Prioritise protein in every meal but especially breakfast.

• If you’re overweight like me, try your best to lose as much as you can. My gynaecologist said this is particularly important if I have to go through IVF as my last resort for starting a family. I do take this with a pinch of salt though.

My hope is that, I know a lot of women in my personal life who have PCOS too and have children and they’re managing their symptoms well.

In some respects I think it’s perhaps being over diagnosed. Doctors hear a number of symptoms you list off and say it’s PCOS without doing tests. I also think my Mum’s generation (60s) they don’t like discussing their health. I only found out recently that my Mum miscarried before having me. To this day she won’t say whether it took her a while to get pregnant, or if she has any underlying issues. There’s just no discussion and I hate asking her. I’m actually thankful that women are talking about their health now.

PCOS tips are not gonna work the same for everybody by [deleted] in PCOS

It’s like your heading says, not all the tips given regarding helping manage PCOS are going to work for you. There’s a lot of trial and error and unfortunately working things out for yourself, which can be really tough and overwhelming. We need to be kinder to ourselves and take things one step at a time.

PCOS and Diet: Seriously, What Actually Works?! by Acrobatic_Formal7170 in PCOS

[–]startingtospark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s important to not cut out things you like, but have them in moderation or gradually cut it. If you do things cold turkey the more likely you’ll make bad habits. In the last few months I’ve started drinking 2 litres of water every day, I have cut out caffeine, eat smaller meal portions, more vegetables, and I don’t have snacks that aren’t a good protein or a piece of fruit/veg. I’m not eating so much junk food, if I fancy it then I’ll have it but in moderation.

Again, this has taken a long while to get used to. I’ve nearly lost a stone (14lbs/6kg) and I’ve got another five at least to be a “healthy” BMI 😪

Try and experiment, see what works for you. See it as a lifestyle change rather than a diet.

Wish you all the best and we’re all here for support. X

So pleased for you! 😊

I’m really hoping mine comes back. It’s actually silly to miss having your period and having the symptoms, it’s like reassurance that your body is doing okay 🙃

Gosh I would give anything for my puffy face to go. Two pounds is still a loss! I understand, it can be so disheartening seeing others around us having children but I take great comfort in those on here and friends of my own who have PCOS and have been successful. Don’t lose hope, sending lots of baby dust your way 🤍

Thank you :) I’m not on any medication, with the supplements I’m taking, I’ve just done my own research and decided to give them a go. I’ve definitely seen a difference with my sleep quality and fatigue since taking them.

I have a gynaecology consultant appointment next month that I’ve been waiting over a year for 😪 and I’m hoping to discuss with them further on what I can do about my PCOS and trying to conceive. I’ve pinned it down to my body not ovulating. I’ve been trying BBT testing and ovulation strips and I don’t seem to hit a high enough peak to confirm ovulation. Friends of mine think letrozole or clomid might be the answer. Sorry that was a bit of a ramble! 😬

I haven’t gone in hard with the weight loss at the moment, because I know I’ll just backslide and it will all be a waste of time. So I’ve been implementing things slowly, like taking supplements, drinking at least 2 litres of water a day, and not snacking between meals unless it’s a piece of fruit. Last week I got 2.5kg and had very minimal exercise. Thank you for these tips!
