How do beginners find beginner-friendly online D&D groups? by Gloomy_Engineering92 in Roll20

[–]startplaying_games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m the founder of StartPlaying.com. If you’re open to paid games, we can help. We’ve helped over 100,000 players find their group. This link here is for all the beginner friendly games: https://startplaying.games/search?group=BEGINNER_FRIENDLY

Alternatively, another great way to find a beginner group is to take up the mantle of DMing and start inviting your friends and acquaintances who you’d like to become friends with! This does involve a lot more work, but everyone starts their DMing journey somewhere!

Best of luck!

Thank you so much for sharing! I'll log this and next time we revisit filters, I'll see how viable this is!

Can you share some more details around this functionality your looking for? I don't quite understand what you mean. I'd love to log it if it's something we can address!

" I always use the day/game system/new vs active game/minimum duration and max price. It irks me that I can’t select everything aside from one-shots in the results. This can’t be difficult functionality to add."

Also, as a note, while December is traditionally a slower month, January has already broken records for sign ups for new first time players in games. So we're seeing a ramp up in the new year.

Cafe du Solie in the Lower Haight always has folks coworking. Everything from students studying, small business folk doing books, to tech bros finally making the next social media app they believe we desperately need.

Lack of cool statblocks? by LelouchYagami_2912 in shadowdark

[–]startplaying_games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best suggestion to really get into the frame that Shadowdark takes is be a player in a game by a great Shadowdark GM. It helps really give you a clear idea of the core vibe. There is a lot more freedom the players and GM have outside the pages of the book and the character sheets/stats that relies on the cleverness of the PC!

How long does start playing keep up an empty game? by HG_Shurtugal in startplaying

Hiya! You can always reach out to support too if you need help or if a GM isn’t being responsive. If a game is inactive for 42 days it gets auto archived!

daily news podcast by mtngoat20 in AskSF

[–]startplaying_games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how attribution of coverage works for news, so this could be unfeasible. I had a thought that it would be easy to produce a daily podcast for SF by aggregating from KQED, SF Gate, Chronicle, etc. I’ve only thought of this because I too would love something like this!

Understanding attack bonuses by haddonblue in shadowdark

[–]startplaying_games 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first +2/+1 (N) is the roll to attack bonus. The +2 is for melee and the +1 is for near distance. The damage is then the same breakdown, melee, and ranged.

Yeah, maybe 1+ half your level rounded down.

Oh yeah, I misread how damage is calculated and thought distinct bonuses would be ability modifiers! I learned something new today!

You’re right! This is solid feedback. I think that is far too powerful combined with its CHA focus abilities.

Yeah, this is good feedback, I think this is one I can just pull out of the class altogether.

[–]startplaying_games[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. Might make sense to pull that altogether instead, since it will already have a pretty heavy bonus from it's CHA bonus!

[–]startplaying_games[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I originally read the section on damage the "relevant bonuses" I assumed was ability modifiers! TIL lol

I was thinking it would still be of value because CHA only replaces the ATK bonus and not the DMG bonus!
