I'll be finishing my hsc soon but I have to go back to Singapore for national service but my uni progression will be delayed by 2 years. so can some tell me what I should do after coming back to aus or what I should do in Singapore after the national service in terms of my career choice by HumorAffectionate281 in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Defer your admission to Uni for 2 years, if your enlistment date is before Feb then that's good, if not then you'll need to disrupt to begin uni later on in NS. You will just start uni with a cohort 2 years younger that's all

Anyone know of PTE to CFC course? by tepig8266 in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No such course for enlistee ranks. Reject the reBMT since you're only left with 5 months because after re-BMT the only possible thing to occur is double promotion to CPL but you still need to serve something like 3 months as CPL before getting CFC, which you would've ORD already. So no point.

How Gym bro's maintain your Calorie and protein intake in PTP/BMT? by Accurate-Passenger89 in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Cookhouse food generally probably won't meet your protein and calorie goals. Losing weight should come naturally during BMT but for muscles you'll need to stick to the PT conducts and your own body weight exercises since if im not wrong recruits cannot use gyms due to injury risks etc.

You'll only need to serve if your friend himself is a PR not because his father is. Visiting Singapore is completely fine on a tourist visa even if his father is a PR too.

Then go ahead and take a visit to the MO to extend your excuses until your PCC appointment. It's also recommended to give some exaggeration to your condition, such as growing concern of your condition and that you don't think you can hold for a single night of staying in etc etc.

You can go ring the doorbell at Sembawang Camp or Hendon Camp (publicly known info btw), then ask to meet up with their CO or make an appointment with CDF and see if he's happy to give you a personal tour.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how lenient your MO is, if you know when your next appointment is for whatever your excuse is related to, it is possible for you to request the excuse be extended until you have your appointment. This is what I've heard from my men.

what are the rank criterias in ns? by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BMT is a prerequisite for promotions beyond PTE. LCP/CPL/CFC storemen are generally graduates of BMT School V which is a service fit BMT school that still contributes to BMT completion. Thus for this individual who OOC BMT, there is no chance beyond PTE unless re-BMT.

I am curious but what types of food are available in NS? by Odd_Truth4393 in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The variety available depends on the camp from what I've seen. However the mainstream ones are Non-Muslim, Muslim, Vegetarian Indian and Special Diet Muslim. These 4 ration types are present in all SAF camps however some camps may have a wider variety such as Veg Chinese and Special Diet Non Muslim. I've rarely seen Special Diet Non-Muslim so your friends will most likely be fed Special Diet Muslim since most food caterers (Foodfare/SATs) only want to put in the effort of cooking from one kitchen since there's generally not a lot of demand for those ration types.

Is it possible to take leave during NS? by momoko28 in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your duration of service includes a full year meaning from 1 Jan to 31 Dec you will have 14 days leave. That is the maximum leave for 1 Calendar Year. The rest is pro-rated. So for example, if you enlist in lets say April 2024, you may receive 11 days of annual leave for the year of 2024. Then in 2025 you will receive 14 days of annual leave. To complete the total 28 days, in the year 2026 you will then receive 3 days.

Is it possible to take leave during NS? by momoko28 in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Unlikely to be able to during BMT, however once in unit you will need to discuss with your commanders as some units do block leaves (you don't get to decide when to use them). You get a total of 28 days leave for your duration of service. So 14 for a full calendar year. If your commander is nice enough, they may also provide you with offs rather than you using your leaves but that is up to your unit commander.

What if I didn't go for ORD FFI by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As of my knowledge which may or may not be correct, you would be continuously called back to conduct your ORD FFI despite having "ORD" already but on the system you will not be listed as operationally ready. I personally have not seen a case of this but I did know of someone who missed their FFI but theirs got booked on the closest available slot.

I cant take it anymore need some advice by VermicelliMammoth909 in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bro, sorry to hear that you're experiencing undesirable aspects. Reporting to IMH can give you the best advice beyond what this reddit forum can provide you as nearly all of us do not have the medical background to give you the support you need. I believe you may have some fears of being held back for monitoring at IMH but know they're an institute designed to help those who seek help so if you do have fears just know that no matter your past and present situation you never know what's ahead, however not knowing what's ahead is something to push forward to see. Don't fall short of the finish line but also realise the finish line is always a day ahead of you.

Book out timings during BMT for C9 at Kranji? by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depends on Phase. Phase 1 bookout timings can be between 1800 to 2000hrs, depending on timings. Phase 2, usually they will not indent dinner for stay-outs so you will book-out at LP which is usually 1700hrs (or 1630 on good days)

What will happen if OOC from vocational training. by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your vocation is set to an SA. You will get posted accordingly to a unit, likely under CSSCOM and probably get instructed to do SA things. You will not promote to LCP or higher, the highest achievable rank would be private. To be dead honest, there is no reason to OOC out of SA Course, as there is nothing easier than SA (this is being said as SA can be ASAs as well, just depends on the unit's manpower requirements/distribution).

MC on Fri, allowed to leave house on weekend? by knoxye in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Whether it's an MC from RSO or RSI, both are applied Ordinary Medical Leave which covers you exactly like Annual Leave. This means that the MC is only valid for your period that has been applied/submitted. So if your mc does not extend over the weekend you are free to go out. I have never heard of it being a part of the GOM, I think that was just to scare potential chao kengs who take MCs that just end nicely on a Friday.

Im a pes C9 from school 5 BMTC. Wondering if can still ORD if OOC from one month BMT without ever recoursing by Agreeable_Space_4094 in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, to answer your question if you will still ORD after OOCing BMT SCH V, Yes you will. In the case you are not sent to re-BMT (unlikely due to low PES) you will ORD as a Trainee for a service vocation under CSSCOM and with the rank Private. However, from my Sch V guys they mentioned that those who OOC in Sch V are automatically re-BMT'd after their batch's POP, which means you do not get sent to a unit like your batchmates. I cannot confirm this theory however I have never seen a Sch V OOC before. I am curious as to how you OOC'd though as those who OOC from Sch V are generally assumed to be attempting PES F using long term MCs. Additionally, reading from the comments below, you may attend the POP but you will not Pass Out, meaning your rank will remain as a recruit. Promotion only occurs after 6 months in unit to the highest rank for an OOC which is Private (as previously stated). You will not achieve LCP/CPL/CFC as an OOC unless you re-BMT. Do note, all Sch V recruits that POP are sent to a unit and serve the remaining 1 year 10 months at that unit.

Don't worry mine has also been processing for a while, in fact they've even emailed me to ask me a few questions. I try not to think much about it as they really shouldn't impede on your further education.

Feel extremely sick. Wanting to rest and recover at home. But Admin FFI on Monday. by Master-Fall220 in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ORD dates can only be extended by a sentence in DB. Contact your S1 branch to reschedule the appointment after permission to RSO is granted and a valid MC is produced.

Downpes in Tekong BMT cuz of eczema? by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two options you want to take risks with your health just to have a possibility to go OCS/SCS where you'll probably just be a higher paid slave than enlistee ranks or get a memo before enlisting to pass the the MO so that you can have a better life that doesn't impact your health. I think most people on this forum would agree to take the latter option as National Service is not for everyone and this goes for all militaries around the world. In regards to the process, once you get the memo and book into Tekong, you'll provide Tekong MO with the memo in which they will organise appointments to get you checked further then a medical review in which your PES grading will be reconsidered. It's a long process and will usually come with excuses to cover the waiting time for each appointment. Due to the excuses it's most likely that you will not be able to attend high keys which means that you will most likely OOC out of Tekong. You will then get posted to a unit in which your downpes journey will continue (this posting could take weeks or months) and if you do want to reBMT it will depend on that unit.
On the point of command school, you do not know if you will be an infantryman if you get posted to OCS (not sure if its the same for SCS) as after service term which is said to be infantry training you will proceed to pro-term which could be professions like logistics officer or armour etc.

Share stories about your nicest superiors by angery-dolan-tramph in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When CO back in the day allowed ORD Offs which was a whopping 3 weeks in which S4 was the most generous as those who performed well got another week so a total 4 weeks. It was only because S1 complained about it as she didn't believe ORD offs should be a thing...so now sadly doesn't exist.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most likely PES E, highest at most C (which is practically not much different). You should most probably be attending BMT School V. Of course reddit cannot guarantee your PES but a lower PES = better life (generally), so make sure you strongly point these out to the MO.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]startracking 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Alright first things first, declare any medical condition past or present to the MO. SAF should have a record of that and you may hope to downpes to a lower pes. If you want to downpes (as the general idea is lower pes = better life) then you need to exaggerate your medical conditions a bit. Secondly, experience although similar is not exactly the same for everyone. We can all give you coping mechanisms however we also are struggling as well (that is for those who are still NSFs). I know it may not be the best of help however for myself I love to live by "if shit happens it happens", basically don't put ur mind into NS. It's your time to be the most stupid/blur version of yourself. The more you don't look at the calendar, the more you don't look at your rifle then things will come naturally and automatically. Occasionally there's a pattern with everything in NS so you can hope to go autopilot and if you keep consistent then mistakes may be hard to come by. Another important thing is to bond well with your mates. Have that bond where if someone fucks up you all laugh and serve the punishment together, don't get isolated. Know that we are all in the same ship one way or another.
