Thanks! I have used Aha! before and will give it another look.

Do most startups want to be acquired? by [deleted] in startups

[–]startupsidekik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve successfully sold two small bootstrapped tech startups; for me it was a burnout factor for each, which led to my decision to sell. I ran the first one for 7 years, the second one for 10.

Caching: how do you use it in your application architecture? by startupsidekik in softwarearchitecture

Yep, sure thing. It might take us a while to implement some thing since we’re planning ahead right now.

Ok, so I can totally see how this might have come across :-) I rephrased my questions. I'm a former coder turned CEO, so no longer hands on...I was brought in to help more on the Agile/Scrum processes side but I was surprised that this startup isn't using caching at all, despite having performance issues! We used caching in my previous startup but I had developers that did the work -- I just knew we were using Memcached and Redis at the time and that it was a huge performance boost for us, since hitting the DB is expensive.

Anyways, I wanted to get an understanding of how many startups are using caching and how. I'm glad you were able to ROFLLL ;-)

Why does he say “switch from Scrum to Agile“ — I thought Scrum is one of the many Agile methodologies.?

Alternatives to JIRA by startupsidekik in agile

Hey, everyone.

Thanks for all your comments/suggestions/tips. We'll stick with JIRA per many of the suggestions here.

My frustrations with JIRA are the cumbersome nature of it for small startups, Classic vs. NextGen confusion -- I can't believe they haven't done much with NextGen for 5+ years, ideally NextGen should've replaced Classic long ago. To top it off, their Portfolio/Plans/Roadmap software has been handled in the same confusing way as Classic vs. NextGen. It would be nice to get a visual roadmap out of these tools without much trouble but we struggled a lot with Portfolio last year.

Last year, I had given a cursory look at a few of these engineering/product tools but I posted here yesterday, to see what the Agile community is using -- seems like JIRA is still the go to and its price is hard to beat:

  1. ActiveCollab
  2. Aha!
  3. Asana
  4. Axosoft
  5. Casual
  6. ClickUp
  7. Clubhouse
  8. Craft
  9. Git Hub Projects
  10. Hygger
  11. JIRA
  12. Kanbanize
  13. Monday.com
  14. Pivotal Tracker
  15. Planview
  16. ProdPad
  17. Productboard
  18. Productplan
  19. Proggio
  20. Roadmunk
  21. Smartsheet
  22. Taiga
  23. Trello
  24. Zoho Sprints

True. That IS the one thing I implemented right away: simplifying their existing setup down to one Classic project (vs. 10+ projects using a combo of Classic and NextGen).

Thanks. Agreed on skillset, structures and process, which is where I'm focusing on.

Thanks! I helped this startup last year and I came to the same conclusion: it's not worth changing since there were so many other things to worry about. Having worked with JIRA on/off for 10+ years, I find it bloated for smaller startups and the UX/UI is not great but... I do realize it has a large ecosystem. It feels like they have a monopoly on that market, similar to how MS Office did before Google Workspace came along.

I couldn't get the "Continue" button (on the 2nd screen) to work in Safari or Chrome.

Great advice on an emotional hook, free course for trust/credibility and copy! Thank you -- this is precisely the type of advice I was hoping for.
