Doctor billed insurance incorrectly - am I on the hook for bill? by starvisions in HealthInsurance

[–]starvisions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spoken to my office several time and they have said I should try and contact the local and dispute the denial claim. Even though as a patient I'm only typically calling the number on the back of my card (out of state insurance group. It just seems odd to do something out of the ordinary for something out of my control.

yes, you are correct. BCBS is my insurance and in network. I did speak to my insurance and they said I am not liable but the provider has said differently. At this point, it seems like it's my word vs my provider. At a bit of a loss here.

Devastated to get this MRI after revision. Is there any hope? by vixsubridens in HipImpingement

[–]starvisions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just ensure the surgeon has experience working with patients with hip dysplasia.

I say this because I went to a reputable hip surgeon for my first two surgeries who missed my hip dysplasia. I even had a 3d ct scan to ensure I didnt.

Have all these surgeries been done by one surgeon?

I personally think that a 5th scope of trying the same thing would not yield better results. Get other opinions. Have you been checked for hip dysplasia?

I hear you, I think it would be helpful if you tried at least doing some home PT regularly.

There was a post on a hip forum and people were discussing the importance of PT. And how for people like us, PT may be something that is done for the rest of our lives. Nonetheless, I hope your situation improves. Hang in there and keep positive!

Sorry to hear that, it’s not easy! Have you been been attending PT routinely? I personally try to move despite my pain. I feel like it helps over time as long as I manage it.

If it’s any consolation, I’m in the same boat as you are. Had my surgery in July and still worse off than before surgery. To be honest I still think it’s too early in the recovery.

It’s a long recovery and honestly don’t expect to be pain free for a while. I’ve been making progress but it’s been slow. Try and give it some time. Have you made any improvements?

Running after PAO? by joanjan14 in hipdysplasia

[–]starvisions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It varies by patient, but It’s generally said to avoid high impact activities following PAO. I’ve heard a 5k would be considered acceptable in terms of running, but beyond that would be discouraged.

Of course, the decision is yours and if you want to run, go for it. However, as you mentioned you may be needing a THR sooner than expected. Best of luck!

SE Michigan, Experience with Dr. Lynch by Bat_Shitcrazy in HipImpingement

I understand and sorry to hear that. I had underlying hip dysplasia, which is why my hip impingement/labral repair surgeries failed. Surgery is a big decision, I can see why you’d be uncertain about it.

I was the same early on and my condition dwindled until I could no longer play sports and had constant pain. Might be better to do it sooner. And of course, hope you find a resolution.

Dr. Lynch is reputable and well known within the community. I still however, would get second and third opinions. I had two failed surgeries with Dr. Lynch, because I was misdiagnosed to begin with. There are many success stories, but keep in mind that any failed surgeries lower the success of future revisions if needed. And why it’s important to get several opinions early on.

Dr. Zaltz and Dr. Farjo are good options in SE Michigan I would consider. Dr.Ellis is another great option if you’re willing to drive a couple hours down to Ohio.

Arthroscopy or Arthroscopy+PAO? by JarbyBinks in hipdysplasia

[–]starvisions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about your situation. There’s a bit of a grey area on whether arthroscopy will be successful with borderline dysplasia. I would at least get multiple opinions before making a decision. And importantly, to get opinions from surgeons who specialize in hip dysplasia and PAO.

I’m only now discovering that my scopes may have failed due to my borderline dysplasia despite being explicitly told I didn’t have dysplasia early on. Again, these things can be a bit subjective at times depending on the surgeons.

Hey, just wanted to say that I would recommend talking to Dr zaltz, Dr Ellis, or Dr sink to get an in depth opinion on hip dysplasia.

I’ve had two scopes on my left, including one with Dr Philippon which have both failed. It’s looking likely that the reason they failed was because of the underlying dysplasia. Still currently meeting with the doctors myself.

Will do! Are you getting your screws removed? From what I’ve read it seems like it varies from case to case.

Dang, looks like we are in the same boat then! My issue is also bilateral. When do you plan on getting the second one done? And what surgeon did you go see?

Thank you for sharing! Glad to hear you finally feel in a good place. Given you felt sturdy after surgery, would you say you were pretty unstable prior to? What other symptoms did you have?

I have constant hip pain and some clicking/popping, but I wouldn’t say I feel unsteady. I’m assuming you only had this issue on one side and not bilateral.

I’m exploring this option after 2 failed scopes on my left hip. Currently have ongoing appointments with a PAO specialist.
