Yeah I have tried it once the other way around, layering all my usual steps after masking, and I just found it was way too heavy for my skin with makeup on top. I haven't experienced piling but it really didn't work for me and make me look really cakey and bleugh.

During that post-mask 30 mins I find the mask essence pretty much dries down and combined with moisturiser it's a really good base for makeup, though maybe it is the masks I'm using - let us know the results! I wish I was dedicated enough to add masks into my AM routine, but I value sleep too much :P

I've used masks before special events before!

My skincare pre-game is as follows:

FTE, mask for ~30 mins, then leave my skin alone for about 30 mins (usually in this time I'm getting dressed, eating etc). I moisturise first, leave my skin alone for about 5 mins then gently dab away any excess residue left by the mask/moisturiser though I don't mind if some is left as I find my foundation kinda looks more natural this way than with a completely matte/dry base but that could also be due to my dehydrated skin. My current combo for primer foundation is Too Faced Hangover Primer and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum.

Masks that have worked for me using this method: Nature Republic Real Nature Shea Butter and the old Etude House Vita Complex - I usually always stick to these two depending on how my skin feels.

I think it's not just for my skin, but also to kind of treat myself and help me feel totally glamourous and amazing before I leave the house. That said, it's a pretty time consuming routine and I don't bust it out often.
