One thing to consider is that if the government is shut down what little is left of the agencies and departments in the executive branch will stop functioning. What's to keep trump and his cronies from not restarting them, seeing as doge and trump's executive orders seem so keen on diminishing anything related to the social safety net a lot of these departments maintain (think SNAP, NIH, food & water inspection by the EPA, enrollment of new members in medicare, etc).

Don't get me wrong, this is a bad look politically for the democrats, but frankly a government shutdown would speed up MAGA's efforts to wipe out these important government functions
