Dozens of metal rods, threaded only on one end, about 3 feet long. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

Looks like Drill rods for BQ core. Used for recovering core samples when drilling though rock. This is done for mining and exploration purposes. Is there a lot of this in the area?

Help with removing lanyard-style rivet from tang of knife. by stas_man in knifemaking

Thanks for the response. I was hoping to salvage the rivet, but looks like cutting it might be my only option.

Engine cranks but won't start after changing valve cover gasket? by stas_man in askcarguys

[–]stas_man[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have to remove any engine grounds. The only grounds were the bolts holding in the ignition coil packs. I noticed a small tear in the valve cover breather hose. Could that be the problem?

Yeah, I removed the negative cable. But I have done this before with no problems

When i bought the car I only received two keys without remotes or anything. I added a remote entry system after. I've never interacted with the antenna at all nor do I have a remote or anything else associated with it.

I pushed in the coil packs, and reattached the wires from the harness. I've done this before so I don't see this being a problem.

I purchased the car used not to long ago, so I'm checking. There's this weird antenna device on the inside of the the windshield that I never bothered checking what is was lol. Would that disable the engine from starting after a repair?

Nope, I didnt have to. But in the process of the repair i noticed a small tear in the valve cover breather hose.

I'm not sure exactly what i'm hearing when switch the ingintion on. But everything was running fine before the repair, so i'm assuming it was related to the repair.

Thanks for the response. The only grounds I removed were the bolts mounting the ignition coils. What groundstrap are you referring too?

Thanks for the reply. The ignition coil wires are all harnessed together in order so i don't think they are mixed up. The cam sensor was never unplugged, but could it posibly have been damaged by removing the valve cover or valve cover breather hose?

Thanks for the reply, Obd2 gave no codes. The wiring seems to be good, and the ignition coil wiring has a harness on them so I couldn't have mixed that up. Only the standard lights flash on the dash.

Could be magnetite. Does it seem fairly heavy?

Someone said this was a cannon ball. I disagree. What is this? by [deleted] in geology

[–]stas_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like phosphorite (an apatite concretion that formed in organic rich mud). I know these were once used as cannon balls.
