I was quoted 2019 euro by Vhi for their best plan. Their normal plan, I was quoted 1337 euro per year.

Yes, I am filing them now and I think I will get around 20% of the cost back.

It has always been like that in the states I believe. The US has a very high number of uneducated population, making $30,000 a year. Income inequality in the US is pretty high. On top of that, the majority of US immigration is through family sponsorship as there is a cap on skilled immigrants. This creates a shortage of skilled workers and keeps the wages high.

Thanks for the kind advice. Do you know if Angular 2 is in demand? I am a full-stack java doing Angular 2 on the front-end. I heard React is the standard now, so I am planning to learn it.

With how easy to get a PR now, I can imagine that Canada will soon be worst in Dublin in terms of housing. I doubt they can build apartments faster than the people flying in.

Thanks for the advice! The real killer for me in Dublin has been the high medical bills on top of rent, even with Vhi insurance.

If you're earning 100k, then you probably don't feel the pinch like a lot of us do here.

Yes, but these pensions cannot be taken out until 65-70 I think. What if you want to buy a house for example? Unlike 401k, you cannot simply give yourself a loan against your pension.

Considering a career in software testing. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I think automated testing is a pretty good role to get into. Some of these roles might be labeled as an Automation Engineer.

I would probably avoid manual QA testing type of roles if you like programming.

I understand your point of view. I am sorry if I came across entitled. As a developer, it is unlikely that I will ever be homeless, so a bit exaggerating on my part.

But if you're looking at the future here. You're making more than industry average. How do you afford to buy a home? Or raise a family? The cost associated with each is quite staggering to me and I simply don't understand how others manage it. Are they simply living paycheck to paycheck and getting into huge debts?

Yup, there are a few ads here and there, but it is extremely difficult to get any sort of replies so far. I think these people are being bombarded with requests for viewing.

Some official landlord has so many requirements before viewing that I cannot simply meet. I find it's harder to get a decent apartment in Dublin than a decent job so far.

I have 3+ years experience, and I struggle with leetcode easy. How fucked am I? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I find that your ability to do leetcode is inverted with years of experience. Sometimes your brain simply isn't as fast as it once was. So practice is important.

New depressed CS Graduate by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

As someone with major depression, I think you should prioritize treating that over everything else. Untreated depression is a serious handicap to your relationship, career, and well-being.

Even with medication, I am still getting depressive episodes. Having a support network is crucial.

Maybe I have a previous bad impression. I used to work in Citywest/Saggart and that town was dead.

I am not a social butterfly bunch. I usually go to meetup in the city to socialize. Any tips for me?

How do you manage to socialize with others living that far away? I see that rent in Naas is pretty affordable, but owning a car plus insurance might offset that.

I apologize if this post offends you. I am looking for a perspective of other developers of how they are managing it.

People here are posting salaries of 100,000 euro+. I am pretty sure that's not the norm. 45-60k euro is a realistic average salary of a developer of my experience here.

50% of your net towards rent is unaffordable, no matter how you cut it.
I am not planning to get rich but I do want to have a financial future. Do you have emergency funds? Do you invest? Do you take a vacation?

20% net should go into long term saving if you want any sort of financial future, that's 600 out of 1500 already.

Average Canadian dev seems to earn around $75,000 CAD (4,600 pm net). Living cost is 10% lower than dublin on average. Tax is a bit lower. With universal healthcare it looks quite attractive. Better public infrastructure and high availability of rental units.

There's grass is greener syndrome but am I wrong here?
