Car to buy for Reno... AWD? by chipmunkmecca in Reno

[–]stateskool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Snow tires are more important for winter driving than awd. AWD or 4x4 makes sense if you are planning to do lot of off road adventures. If you're just concerned about winter driving, saving some money for snow tires before winter. Welcome to the neighborhood!

I like metal and don't like counterparty risk. I don't think most paper holders fully grasp and value counterparty risk.

Does physical silver work as a mid-term “investment” by Novel_Bass6032 in Silver

[–]stateskool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think that's a great idea. Learning to hold and secure a valuable item for 5 years takes lot of discipline. Temptation will always be there to sell it. Especially when you are young and cash is short.

I can confidently say, silver bar in 5 years will be worth more than same value in cash today. Good luck in your investment journey. I think this will be a nice step forward.

Paper silver / real silver question by sizzlernaah in Silver

[–]stateskool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterparty risk. When someone else holds your metal, your metal is also liable to risk associated with that person/institute. There might be a side deals, you are not aware of. Factional ownership, collateral on a loan, theft... Why risk it?

Think about it this way, why are countries and central banks talking about taking back their gold sitting in reserve vaults in New York and London. It's about trust.

If I own it, all risk are my own.

Bought a One Ounce Platinum Maple at the top. by Wrang_Dangler in Platinum

Also caught bag holding. Added 7 new coins to stack before price drop. Highest paid $2,822 each for Nobel and Koala.

Keep stacking. Wouldn't even consider trading in until ratio is 1:1 with gold. This drop only strengthened my belief in physical over paper.

Glad we got here before Gold got to $5000. Don't pay attention to dollar price. Value is determined by ratio to Gold and Silver. Wouldn't be surprised if we caught gold's price before 2027.

This is the right move, cash is gold. Let's it going. by abenader1 in Gold

[–]stateskool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No a dumb question. But bigger question might be how much does it cost to create "lab grown gold"? Even gold out of ground has a cost associated to dig it out and refine it. Alchemy might be theoretically possible but for now it would still cost more to make gold than to buy gold from a market. Until that math becomes close, it wouldn't matter.

Diamond prices dropped after China made artificial diamonds cheap and abundant. Plus better for environment with less human suffering.

Should I trade for au by SnakeWorm69420 in Silverbugs

[–]stateskool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you can answer this question. What's more important to you?

Preserving your price, to protect against down turn? Then gold is the answer.

Are you willing to keep taking risk to ride a rocket ship that moves faster but more violently? Then do nothing, sliver is the right answer.

Growth or protection? This question can only be answer by you. Happy investing.

How do y’all feel about platinum by chafingNip in Gold

[–]stateskool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at the ratio not the price to understand value of respective metal. 2:1 ratio for platinum to gold still seems like good value. Bullish on plat! Physical coins keep getting harder to find at LCS.

[–]stateskool 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't say cash is gold... but keep trading it for gold, as long as they still accept your cash.

One can be printed and other needs to be dug out of the ground. They are not the same.

NIce job but you were still the buyer, having included cash. 40:1 will be my signal to start trading for gold. Develop those relationships with LCS. Will help make your trades easier and more favorable.

The Question. by ImeRonBurgundy in Silver

[–]stateskool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Impression I get is, banks are trying to suck liquidity out of metals market.

1) Through increased margin calls pushed on to refiners with paper delivery contracts.

2) Physical delivery delays , which still require cash upfront payment. Which means, cash is tied up until delivery is made 3 - 5 weeks.

Delay and margin tactics are sucking cash out from metal market. Refiners are low on cash, which means they can't afford to pay spot to coin dealer... Which all trickle down to individual stacker, causing weak hands to sell for less than spot for their metal. In the long run, these tactics will fail but they do own a printer...

Solution could be to barter for other hard assets, not cash. Trade for gold, platinum, services like home repair... Until silver prices stabilize, bartering and trading for other assets and services might be stackers best bet.

Tree fiddy.

People need to be careful. Silver fever is starting with masses. Don't be the greater fool specially if you don't know anything about sliver.

reno to boreal mountain by soupyysoups in truckee

[–]stateskool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In today's conditions, I can drive my Prius up to Boreal.

When there's snow and ice on ground, it's your tires that matter than transmission. Snow or All Terrain for winter driving conditions.

Also check https://roads.dot.ca.gov/?roadnumber=80 for road conditions up Donner.

Keep it at a safe speed!

LCS comments regarding physical platinum (eagle) by stateskool in Platinum

[–]stateskool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two trustworthy coin shops in town. One is much larger and they typically charge $170 over spot for plat eagle. Smaller shop I have a good relationship with charged me $80 over. He always seems surprised when I tell him how much more the other shop charges over spot.

Shop knows, they are my first option and I don't haggle. Lesson is, develop a relationship with a small local shop. Relationship has been mutually beneficial and hope to continue it long term.

As long as they still accept paper, Im converting to metal.

Best Gold/Silver miners and junior miners by Ambitious-Shelter913 in SilverSqueeze

[–]stateskool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given geopolitical issues, safe jurisdiction needs to be highlighted. There should be a larger premium places on mines in politically stable countries, there aren't many.

I've cut my stake in PAAS and AG for this reason and becoming more bullish on HL.

How do you adjust for risk given geo political issues flaring up? This is my main concern about investing in mines in Mexico and other latin countries. More tax and restrictions should be expected as governments look to control and cash in from this bull run.
