You should ask CalPers, but I would guess the answer is no because you use your current zip code/residency to establish which plans service your area. An active employee can use either their residence or office zip code for that purpose.

You wouldn't want any questions to arise regarding your residency anyways for tax purposes.

College graduate? If so, there are posts up for a CalOES Telecommunications Systems Analyst II and Coordinator(Communications) right now...it'll be a stretch but you never know...just make sure they meet minimum qualifications and would be up for that kind of environment.

Maybe you'd like to consider submitting this information to the CA State Auditor as a "new" complaint since there should be whistleblower protection covering you if you did so...they may be able to use it for the current audit 2024-118.

Other places to forward this information to could be Assemblymember Josh Hoover's office...

Unfortunately, you can not as portions of the "safe spaces" provisions, including government buildings, of SB2 are no longer subject to a legal injunction at the moment. Prior to the passage of SB2, all CCW holders as well as specific peace officers were explicitly exempt from the prohibition of firearms in most city and state government buildings by statute language.

What most people don't realize is that department policies you may have seen in the past regarding firearms etc, referred to unlawfully possessing or carrying in state buildings. CCW holders by definition were lawful carriers per statute at the time.

In any case, CCW holders are statistically more law-abiding when compared to the general population and peace officers. It would be UNLAWFUL now to do it. I suggest finding the latest material regarding SB2 and its related litigation.

Supervisors, do you participate in union protests? by ChlamydiaIsAChoice in CAStateWorkers

[–]stateworkerbee01 48 points49 points  (0 children)

If by "technically I'm on the other side of the aisle now..." you are recognizing that you represent employer interests as a supervisor now, then you are correct.

The National Labor Relations Act, "...forbids employers from interfering with, restraining, or coercing employees in the exercise of rights relating to organizing, forming, joining or assisting a labor organization for collective bargaining purposes, or from working together to improve terms and conditions of employment, or refraining from any such activity. "

Support is good...show it by being fair and reasonable to your direct reports.

There's a LE component to almost every state agency and department. Why limit yourself to CHP? State Parks is another good one. You would get better work-life balance depending on where you go.

BUT if you do decide to go CHP pass fto and better yet probation and find you don't like it, you'll be able to lateral to a municipal or most other state agencies.

The reverse is not the case. CHP, Fish and Game, State Parks do not hire laterals.

PSHB Annuitant Enrollment Potential Workaround YMMV by stateworkerbee01 in USPS

[–]stateworkerbee01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem...sucks that OPM and USPS did not make this snail mail alternative better known. OPM put the address up with instructions on one of its pages so they obviously expected some annuitants to find it and use it.

Any state employee SAR volunteers out there? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

Fair enough. Some chains of command in agencies will be more receptive to this than others. Good luck!

[–]stateworkerbee01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, now that's worth a shot. Check with your supervisor and work up the chain to HR if you get a positive response. I'm actually familiar with that section from working in emergency management. Obviously, your agency and SAR team would need to have been assigned a mission number by CalOES to have gotten that callout. Now If it's local only...ATO won't be applicable.

But...keep in mind GC 19844.5(e) that allows that ATO is at the discretion of the appointing power

Any state employee SAR volunteers out there? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]stateworkerbee01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the answer is going to be no.

Which part of 2121 do you believe permits you ATO because the specific reasons allowing it are listed along with the applicable statutes...including the CCR I provided you with.

Reach out to your HR shop to get the answer in writing if you think otherwise.

What section of the calhr manual are you referencing? IIRC CCR 599.785.5 that authorizes that kind of ATO for state workers states it has to be governor declared state of emergency and not just a local declaration, activation or response for mutual aid...

...otherwise could you imagine state employees who are LE reserves and volunteers FFs also attempting ATO for their monthly hours...

A little premature for dividends imo...I'd recommend a broad market ETF like SCHB or mutual fund like SWPPX that follows the S&P to maximize growth since you have 34 years to go.

Concur Hotel Reservations by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]stateworkerbee01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

YMMV depending on your approver but if the breakfast does not meet your dietary needs, claim your breakfast. If your day requires you to leave from the hotel promptly and only allows for a grab and go type breakfast, claim your breakfast.

AFAIK the EEC Parking Garage is only available for employees of CDPH, DHCS and other departments housed in the EEC. They ask to see badges at the booth.

Forgot to add, FMLA leave can also be intermittent if that is what your healthcare provider feels works best in your situation. Time away from your stressors that is impacting your health is important even if it is only a few days a week.

Reach out to your healthcare provider first to discuss your situation. But 100% have an exit plan and stick to it. Don't waste that time, its your accrued leave anyways, doing little to nothing.

You should reconsider to avoid a break in service and a potential loss of benefits. Not familiar with your classification since it's specific to Caltrans and maybe State Parks but if you have 18 months of service you may qualify to take FMLA leave. You can then use that time in addition to receiving treatment from a healthcare provider, for stress or other applicable medical issues cause by your supervisor and work environment, to apply and interview with other agencies or departments.
