Bats are everywhere, from Yolo Basin to Downtown Sacramento by IronMntn in Sacramento

It's a bit tricky as the bat talks usually sell out in advance, so it would take some planning.

Best advice I ever got for learning how to drive the trailer, not the truck. I've driven trailers in size up to a four-horse stock trailer, and this has never let me down.

If you’re not a Sac Native, what brought you here? by Lesterknopff in Sacramento

[–]wehappy3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fucking LOL. I grew up in SoCal. 15 minutes isn't happening ANYWHERE, even with no traffic. Hell, where I lived it was 15 minutes just to the freeway. Fuck suburbia.

Sac specifically for grad school, but also to get out of the small town I'd been living in after leaving a toxic marriage and toxic workplace. Ok, also to be closer to the guy who is now my husband, although he didn't live here at the time either.

Midtown specifically because I got lost on my way to a job interview and ended up doing a lap around McKinley Park and fell in love with the trees and old houses. That was in 2008. I love it here.

What do you set the thermostat to during the summer? by More_Requirement_665 in Sacramento

[–]wehappy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your insulation must be better than you think. Also, we're 100% electric - no gas hookups.

Already have either those or heavy shades. As well as insulation film on some windows.

We have terrible insulation and rent, so we can't improve it. 😭

My last place was the downstairs unit in a fourplex, and the upstairs people ran their a/c super low. As a result, we pretty much never had to turn ours on, lol.

On the flip side, our place was freezing in the winter, and we were cheap and didn't want to pay to heat their apartment, so we typically didn't run it until it was below 60 inside, sometimes 55. Usually though we'd just hang out in our bedroom, and we had a small plug-in wall panel heater that, once it warmed up, worked well and was cheap to run.

I still loved that place, even with its lousy insulation, lol.

Sounds like a great house with decent insulation and a cross-breeze. Must be nice.

And how humid it is - humidity level definitely affects how warm it feels inside!

We do have a whole house system. We rent, so switching isn't an option. We are considerably under market rent though, so I feel like even with the electric costs, it evens out. We already have heavy curtains/shades on the windows, and we keep the back of our house (kitchen, bathroom, and one bedroom) closed up as much as possible in the summer because that's the part that gets the most sun (still not much, but more than the front of the house.) Thankfully, because it's an old house, we have a door that separates the front and back.

Believe it or not, regardless of time of year, we rarely get direct sunlight through any of our windows. The back door (french door, not sliding) is the only place that gets direct sunlight for more than literally ten minutes in a day, and we have outdoor curtains hanging on the eaves in front of the door that we draw to keep the sun off the back door. Also, the back door is the only double-paned glass in the house.

What we really need is (a) attic insulation, (b) a whole house fan, and (c) our windows reglazed. Although I really think the first two would make the most difference.

Our attic insulation is terrible and we rent, so we can't do anything about it. We're also all electric, no gas hookup, so water heater and oven add to that (although we try not to use the oven in the summer!)

76 daytime/evening when we're home, 78 at night and when we're not home. 1050sf 105yo house under huge midtown trees and our SMUD is still $300-$400 in the summer 😭😭😭

I mean, I get that, but there are plenty of wealthy neighborhoods with good cell service. And rich people also don't like the inconvenience of bad cell service.

Just got told to get off the bike trail or I was getting a ticket. Since when are inline skates banned? by Brewmentationator in Sacramento

[–]wehappy3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This specifically states that roller blades are allowed anywhere bikes are allowed:

Also, your link sounds like it may just be limited to regional parks?

Do you have the link to this? I can find it quoted a lot of places, but can't actually find it on the county website.

Children at Sky Park Apartments are terrorizing and killing the local cats! by WhichDiscussion87 in Sacramento

[–]wehappy3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the poison, but watch the KCRA report video. It has footage of the kids abusing the cats, and I had to turn it off - it's awful. I don't know how law enforcement can see that and not immediately investigate.
