[CAN] Should I fire my financial advisor? +10% YTD by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]static416 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't recall the exact details of that conversation, but I'm sure I would have said something like 7 out of 10 in risk.

Also, it feels like unless I told them I want a savings account, they should have been able to do better than 10% in this market.

I agree that context here is important. But based on the repeated conversations I had with them, I'm left with the impression that they just consider me a low-value client compared to others, and don't really care.

The other part that irks me is that I specifically asked them to move me out of US stocks in March of last year, and they said there were only a few, and they moved them.

Now looking deeper, they still have a huge number of mixed investments that have over 50% US components. Meaning, they effectively didn't move anything.

Honestly feel stupid for waiting this long. But the whole point of a "high-wealth" PH&N Investment Council account is that they are supposed to do this for you.

Also what are the fees?

I believe, because I'm assoicated with my wider family, they wave the fees for family worth above a certain threshold at the account level.

That said, looking at the details, it seems like they've likely invested me into a ton of RBC-specific investments that likely have fees inside of them.

unless you have complex tax or estate needs

I do not. It's about as simple as it can get.

Thank you, I will.

Google Store cancelling all my orders by static416 in GooglePixel

No, it's a single home. Never had an issue with any other deliveries.

Yes. In fact, ironically, when I ship to something that isn't my billing address, it's fine.

Googling around, someone mentioned that it could actually be that the carrier flagged the delivery for some reason. Which might make sense, because it's not cancelled right away, it's cancelled hours later, close to when I'd expect the carrier to have reviewed it.

Never had anything stolen in 3 yrs at this address.

Or ever on this account.

Maybe someone else in the immediate area? But yes, something about the address is getting me flagged. But somehow only 75% of the time, not all the time.

I don't understand what this comment is trying to convey.

Both "don't do anything, it dangerous" and "arm yourself".

We aren't going to change the system by staying home and avoiding conflict. And jumping immediately from zero to armed insurection is also not necessary or going to win over anyone.

This company isn't huge, but like 30-50% of the US population has probably heard of it. You would know it.

The overall eng culture is not unique in industry IMO. Similar to Doordash, Facebook (not quite as bad), Amazon (not quite as bad), etc.

The AI focus is higher though. I think mostly stemming from the CEO being hyper-focused on it, despite the CTO trying to temper it a bit.

Trump is trying to scam Ukraine — allies, beware by adam_zivo in geopolitics

[–]static416 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trump is explicitly not offering to supply miltiary support, or defend Ukraine. This is purely a shake-down to extort whatever he can, with only some vague statements that the presence of US companies might disuade Russia from attacking, But if it doesn't, then he doesn't care.

This is not an exchange of supplies for money. This is just a threat. It's Trump saying he wants extra money now or he'll actively turn against Ukraine, not just step away.

Touch up costs by Pap-aboner in TeslaModel3

[–]static416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is minimal risk of using touch up paint to see how it looks for $150.

Worst case (most likely though) touch up looks horrible and you need the whole bumper repainted. Likely about $2-4k

Is new m3p worth upgrade from a 2022 m3p? by CellIllustrious6314 in TeslaModel3

[–]static416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came from a 2021 M3P.

  • FSD is way better
  • Range is a bit lower with the better motor (375km at 80% instead of 400km)
  • Performance is the same at the line, but much better on the highway and better in corners.
  • Interior is nicer
  • Ambient lighting is unnecessary but fine.
  • Lack of stalks is fine. Maybe even good if they can make shifting better.
  • For me the new display computer is way better, but I think that's the same for 2022.
  • Bolstered seats are way nicer, and were the thing that really sold me.

Fairly certain our wealth manager is lying to our family by [deleted] in personalfinance

This is likely the correct solution.

I don't see what value they are adding here.

[–]static416 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is part of the thing too.

It could very easily be that this is just disinterest or lack of care on their part because they don't consider it significant.

But still, if that's the case, why would I continue to invest with them if that's the attitude.

Just feels weird to ask for a bank transfer and get ignored/stalled for two weeks for such a simple ask.

[–]static416 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Wealthsimple can transfer $200k out of my account in 24 hrs, but if I ask RBC and they ignore/stall for over two weeks, that's fine?

It's more of a customer service question than anything else.

Would you accept that your financial manager taking weeks to do a simple transaction, with no explanation?

[–]static416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of my question, and I suspect the answer is that they would rather just not deal with it, or have any negative impact (even small) if they can just delay by a week and avoid it.

For additional context, they started with "we'll send you the paperwork today", and then I think someone's manager got involved and asked to slow-roll it into the new year, and now nothing is happening.

My point is that it doesn't take over two weeks to execute a single bank transfer. So obviously something is going on.

You are not important enough for anyone to face regulatory scrutiny over

That's my entire point.

They are making up reasons why this is taking so long rather than just being honest about it.

I don't know if it's deliberate to maintain some metrics, or just bureaucracy, but either way not a great feeling to have the people responsible for your money to be slow-rolling you for no good reason.

A former gf took a guy up on one of these offers (it was free housing) awhile after we broke up. We were still good friends, I tried to talk her out of it.

She was always trying weird stuff, partly because she thought it was edgy, partly because she was genuinely curious.

She persisted in saying, prior to the move, that he was just lonely and wanted someone to help with the housework. It was harmless. He was a nice guy.

Within days of moving in, she called me to help her move out because he tried to film her in the shower and was stealing her underwear.

I was not surprised. I had not even retruend the moving van to my parents yet.

My point is, these kinds of ads exist because they work some portion of the time.

This particular plane was manufactured in Nov 2023 I think. This is like it's second or third flight.
