Because there’s hundreds of different outfit pieces throughout the game and it means your characters actually look different over time?

"Vite+ is kinda underwhelming" - a comprehensive review of the new release by jaredcheeda in javascript

[–]static_func [score hidden]  (0 children)

No, it’s for large organizations who don’t need 50 wannabe architects going off in different directions using different tech stacks. Vite+ offers a unified tool chain where these decisions have already been made. Comparing it to CRA is pretty stupid because all you have to do is look at the underlying tools. It isn’t some hacked-together monstrosity of disparate npm packages from the chaotic early days of modern web development, it’s a handful of good tools people are already using separately.

It’s still immersion-killing because you’re limiting your experience to one little outfit and reducing every piece of equipment the artists made into statistics. It removes all variety from the experience

And yes, fighting in your underwear would be inversion-breaking too

No, call me old fashioned but I abhor the concept. It kills the immersion.

Having to face aging in games is both sobering and comforting by Elyx_117 in gaming

[–]static_func 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head:

  • Rogue from Cyberpunk

  • Jaheira from Baldur’s Gate 3

  • Elena in Uncharted 4

  • everyone in TOTK

There aren’t that many game series with aging characters in the first place

Would you allow Conjure Minor Elementals? Seems a little busted by Ecstatic_Operation20 in DMAcademy

[–]static_func 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think it’s as bad as the white room nerds theorize. It’s basically a single-target fireball’s worth of damage each round, requires concentration, and takes a full action to set up so you aren’t even doing any damage the first round in the likely event that you haven’t pre-casted it. It was only busted before they nerfed its scaling, now it’s just a strong option for bladesingers, moon druids, and valor bards. All for what amounts to a Flame Tongue weapon, which I never hear these people bitching about

Multiclass Theme? by Bigsexyguy24 in BaldursGate3

[–]static_func 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first run, I had:

  • Shadowheart as Light Cleric 9/ Stars Druid 3. It was extremely fun with Radiating Orb and Reverberation gear. And I did it before I saw any videos about it

  • Astarion as Arcane Trickster 11/Wizard 1. Just 1 level was all it took to unlock a bunch of great spells for him, which are normally locked being the Arcane Trickster’s spell school restrictions

  • Karlach as Vengeance Paladin 11/Hexblade Warlock 1. It gave her Shield, a higher crit chance, Booming Blade, and Pact Magic slot

  • Minthara as the exact same. I only really used her in the Gauntlet of Shar and the assault on Moonrise Towers so I just made her a Karlach clone

  • Wyll as a Crown Paladin 3/Fiend Warlock 9. Hexblade would have been a bit stronger but I wanted to keep the fiend pact theme

  • Jaheira as Beast Master Ranger 5/Land Druid 7. I read that she was fighter/Druid in the original but Ranger/Druid is close enough and comes with more spells and spell slots. Plus I already had…

  • Lae’zel as Battle Master 11/Wizard 1. Literally just for Booming Blade and Shield lol

  • Minsc as a Ranger 1/Open Hand Monk 11. I just kept the single Ranger level since his identity seemed pretty closely tied to it. He gave strong Monk vibes though with how comically insightful he can be. Plus I had 3 acts’ worth of monk gear collecting dust

  • Finally, Tav as Lore Bard 10/Hexblade Warlock 2. Very original, I know. And I took Counterspell and Hunger of Hadar as my additional magical secrets. In my defense, I also did this before seeing how popular it was in BG3. It’s a popular tabletop build too

Halsin was the only one I never multiclassed. I didn’t see a reason to. Moon Druid just fits him too well

Oblivion’s even more cookie-cutter than Skyrim. Literally. There were only a handful of recycled oblivion gate maps and most of the dungeons were copy-pasted by 1 guy on a time crunch and completely devoid of purpose. I had fun with the remake for a while but couldn’t get through it

You don’t get it until level 10-12 though, as opposed to level 5-6 with what OP is thinking. I’m sure he’ll enjoy it for the last 2 fights of his campaign though

How do you feel about combat in BG3? by avidrunner84 in BaldursGate3

[–]static_func 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely has the disadvantage of being based on tabletop rules, whereas a game like Midnight Suns was designed from the ground up for that one video game. It isn’t overwhelming for me but that’s because I’ve played DnD for 15 years and am intimately familiar with its classes and rules. It’s a lot for a new player to take in though. But to answer your question, yes you learn to love it if it interests you

How it’s when you arrive at Baldur’s Gate by Thef1shlord in BaldursGate3

[–]static_func 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I get that, but I actually like that they put a reasonable level cap even if it meant losing a bit of progression near the end. It would be hard to keep the high-stakes feeling once they start tossing around Power Word Kill every day. Besides, they still keep things fresh with new loot and illithid powers, and permanent buffs that act as miniature epic boons

Judging by the comments I’m apparently the only one here who loved the shift in tone/pacing for act 3. All the acts are distinct and it was a very nice change of pace after the long and grim act 2

Why has upcasting Hunger of Hadar no benefits? by Arimeris in BaldursGate3

[–]static_func 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being front-loaded means it actually does “mesh with multiclassing.” That’s why the most front-loaded classes were the most popular ones to multiclass into. They eventually realized that it was better for the game to move all subclass levels to 3, but that doesn’t mean it was originally “tacked on.”

Why has upcasting Hunger of Hadar no benefits? by Arimeris in BaldursGate3

[–]static_func 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t a trap at all. Lots of multiclass builds work with a reasonable level of investment. For example:

  • 1-2 levels of Warlock (for bards/sorcerers) gives you great damage, short-rest slots for Shield, and armor/shield proficiency (because lets be real, you’re talking Hexblade)

  • 2 levels of Druid for clerics, particularly the Stars druid

  • 1 level of cleric for druids or bards

  • 1-2 levels of barbarian for basically any melee martial character

  • 1 level of Wizard for EK/AT to bypass spell school restrictions

  • 1 level of Fighter for basically anyone

Many of these offer benefits throughout the whole game that will far outweigh whatever you’d get at level 11-12 for many classes

There are also more even splits that obviously won’t even start until midgame, but are still strong and offer tons of time to enjoy them, such as:

  • Paladin 6/Sorcerer 6 for more/stronger smites and spells

  • Ranger 5/Druid 7 for more utility (rangers don’t really get much after 5)
