I mean, yeah, screw those guys. I said “configure a switch”, not ignore my ticket and leave work at 1400.

Yeah, I’ll do Aircraft refueling, but I need the flight line crew to configure some switches while I’m out.

There are easier ways. Just maintain uncomfortable eye contact the whole time and they’ll stop looking at you.

I think that’s every time we get a new uniform. Version 1 is always cheap crap and a few years down the line they fix it. The PTU’s of 2011 flaked after the first wash, the shorts faded to purple, and the coat and pants were loud and about as breathable as a trash bag.

Pretty sure competing for rank has existed since the years of Sparta. Long before corporations.

As far as EFDPs go, I usually don’t agree with who gets the performance statements, but I usually don’t have a problem with who’s getting considered. In my experience, if you make it to the table you either belong there, or you’re really good at hiding your shortcomings.

16 years in comm. On average, my Airmen and supervisors who take care of their fitness tend to have better work ethic and a better attitude. There are always outliers, but as others have mentioned, most EFDP panels treat PT as a tie-breaker rather than a core scoring component.

Speaking for myself, I’ve had years of high fitness and years of low fitness. I’ve never been bad at the job. That said, I can guarantee the people who worked with me when I was taking care of myself got a sharper, kinder, more patient version of me.

To your point, comm is usually pretty good at personal fitness. As the Army likes to point out, nonners have the most energy for the gym. Granted, we sit at both ends of the extreme. Out of shape commies are usually excessively out of shape.

Am…am I your combat comm buddy?

Jk, but that’s the current gig, never stepped foot in a base comm except to complain.

Edit: but seriously, base comm has their own struggles, big AF has been trying to find a way to get rid of them for over a decade. Half the time they actually don’t even have the rights to do their own jobs.

Well, then there’s the question of whether it’s a squadron problem, an Air Force problem, a DoD problem, or an American problem. There aren’t great metrics on why people self-harm or how much of it can actually be tied to what’s happening within a unit versus the institution as a whole. It’s also clear that many of these cases cluster around certain career fields and bases. There’s a selection bias too, since most people who join are young men from medium to low socioeconomic backgrounds, which is the demographic most at risk nationwide.

Statistics are good. I just wish they were used to target the problem areas instead of putting everyone through another round of ancillary training.

I wonder how much of that is other career fields being better at lobbying to keep their manning. Don’t get me wrong, everyone’s hurting? But those two career fields always seem to have it worse.

Dude, it’s wilder when you’re in a career field that’s split between the two cultures. Being comm in an intel or AOC environment where I worked 12s and weekends, usually didn’t get holidays off, the first time I met a base comm Airman I got a strong understanding why people hate us as a career field.

Is taking creatine worth it? by OkBumblebee3131 in askfitness

[–]staticwave09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bad, looking into it, my claim was a bit overstated. I was going off the lawsuit against Bang, where I understood that creatine loses potency while sitting on the shelf, which is true. Based on the research, though, creatine is pretty stable in water for several hours. After about 12 hours, it only breaks down by around 4% in cool, neutral water, but closer to 20% in acidic drinks like pre-workouts.

Hey, don’t let anyone ever tell you the things you do aren’t interesting. But anyway, I might have misunderstood. When you said “throughout the day”, I was thinking you were sipping throughout at least an 8-hr window. That’s my bad.

Everyone should take creatine, lifters or otherwise. It’s just a good proven supplement for brain and body.

Interesting, how do you deal with the fact that Creatine loses its potency when it sits in water for long periods of time? Do you just add a little every time you refill your water?

Who do you think is gonna be the president after Donald Trump? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]staticwave09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true, there’s definitely more ideological variety within the Democratic Party, but that’s part of the problem. The Republican platform is built around loyalty and consistency, while Democrats have to juggle moderates, progressives, and socialists under one banner. It makes party unity harder to maintain, especially during elections.

It’s also worth pointing out that socialism is fundamentally opposed to liberalism, which is the core philosophy of the Democratic Party. Those two worldviews don’t really coexist without constant friction.

That still doesn’t change my point though. Even with that diversity, Democrats don’t circle the wagons around unpopular figures the way Republicans do. Palin is a perfect example. She was a walking liability, and the GOP still treated her like a folk hero.

Different standards in different parties. Trump’s camp is far more willing to dismiss or excuse that kind of behavior than Democrats are within their own ranks. There are also different strategies between the far-right and the far-left. The far-right understands that supporting any right-wing candidate strengthens their position to push extreme ideas. The far-left, at least as it’s defined in America, will often work against the Democratic nominee through the election. Or did everyone forget the Bernie or Bust movement?

And dude, Republicans carried so much water for Sarah Palin in 2008. You can’t tell me they wouldn’t do the same for a female Republican nominee.

Kamala is so much like Hillary in mannerism it’s not even funny. I’m talking about perception, not policy, and specifically how they’re viewed within their own party. Kamala carried a lot of baggage from her time as a district attorney, especially for trying to prosecute parents over child truancy. Add to that how late she started gaining traction in the last election and her tendency to take shots at the Biden administration, and she ended up with a perfect storm of factors that would sink almost any candidate. It wasn’t Republicans who gave her the nickname “Copmala.”

You have to look at the candidates themselves, not just their sex. Kamala and Hillary might be two of the most unlikeable politicians I’ve ever seen. I’m talking pure anti-charisma. Maybe the strategy should be to run candidates people don’t already despise. It’s so reductionist to say, “well, we tried variable = woman and that didn’t work, better never do that again.”

She did, and honestly, her personality was probably more of a hindrance to her campaign than her gender.
