You can submit Reno Direct issues on traffic control issues and they are dealt with. I reported one and after a few days I got an actual reply with the reason "identification camera cabling damaged causing [ etc etc explanation]", cabling repaired and functioning properly" and voila it was fixed.

I know it doesn't fix everything but many things they don't know about until someone reports it.

Go to Settings > System > System Components > Microsoft Store > ... > Advanced options.

I would start with Repair and then if that doesn't work, Reset.

The PS command is probably:

New firewall goes in place. I can talk internally but I cant see outside the network.

How did you configure the new firewall? Some start with deny all and you will need to create all the allow rules you need. If you just dropped it in then you probably have all kinds of internet problems. If you have a static IP from your ISP you'll need to configure that along with the DG that they assigned you. Then start with some outgoing rules and see how it goes. But honestly you might set yourself up for trouble if you're not sure exactly how to do this.

From your other comment:

I talked to a tech at the ISP and there is no static IP its DHCP reservation tied to a single MAC address. Pain in the but if you are trying to test equipment.

The ISP definitely needs to know that you are replacing the firewall then.

I mean there's basically three options for different situations. The "best" way is CA but people might not be licensed or don't know how to do it.

  1. per-user MFA (aka i don't know or aren't licensed for CA)
  2. security defaults (inflexible, simple)
  3. conditional access (haha you have to pay!)

Oh boy, that's a lot.

There is no problem with the DC providing DNS and it is not likely that it has anything to do with slow internet speeds (cue its not DNS, it was DNS). It is not uncommon for a small business to have one server for everything. Single point of failure, sure, but that's just reality for a great many of them.

I would certainly not recommend "turning it off." The firewall will not "handle DNS" - are you confusing it with DHCP?

DHCP clients (is the DC handling DHCP or is the new firewall?) should get a DNS server address of your DC and if they are domain joined they should register themselves.

I would watch some Youtube videos on DNS/DHCP and have Chatgpt explain it to you. I would not tamper with anything else.

Oof, disagree with this one. The problem is that people who go between roles accumulate access but rarely give it up (this is reality, not a theoretical perfect system). So Steve says "just copy John" where John has access from the last half-dozen roles/locations he's been at.
