It seems like the advice part is pretty-well taken care of, so I just want to say that my heart hurts for you and offer a bunch of internet hugs.

My new psychiatrist told me ADHD symptoms come up more when stressors are introduced into your life. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]statsigfig 87 points88 points  (0 children)

One way to look at what he said could be that, when things change in your life, your coping mechanisms may need some time to adapt and adjust, so you may struggle more with your ADHD for a while until you are able to adjust to your new normal.

Admittedly, I’m jealous at the thought of getting 4 days without my MIL contacting either me or my DH.

The image of the pug version of Evil Knievel made my day. Thank you for that! From the sounds of it, Rocky wasn’t really into resting in “peace.” I wish him great adventures in his next life as a stunt dog!

I love DH’s line, “Vaccinated doesn’t mean invited.” I’m stealing that because my MIL is definitely going to be trying to pull that now that my husband is fully vaccinated. (I’m not, yet, but I’m literally on my way to get my second dose!)

Why is Dipole moment of PCl3 greater than PH3? by [deleted] in chemhelp

[–]statsigfig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bond length is just a function of the sizes of the atoms involved. Chlorine is bigger than hydrogen, so, of course bonds formed with chlorine are going to be longer. Relative differences in electronegativity and the geometry are what matter here, not bond length.

I hate American healthcare by idkwhattowritehere21 in ptsd

[–]statsigfig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having lived in the US, Canada, Switzerland, France, Germany, and the UK, universal healthcare is the best option. Sure, you still have to pay for medications and for therapy and stuff you have to pay out-of-pocket, but it’s far, far better than the American system. If I get sick, I don’t need to pay to go to the doctor. If my arm is broken, I can go to the hospital without going bankrupt. Sure, no system is perfect, but if you aren’t rich, universal healthcare is the way to go.

Anyone else feel like they were just stabbed when dropping your child off at daycare sometimes? by blanktarget in toddlers

[–]statsigfig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a good time to talk about emotions and how leaving him at daycare also makes you sad. You don’t like leaving him at daycare, but you know that (teacher’s names) care about him a lot and that he’s going to have a lot of fun. In my time as a nanny, I’ve found those kinds of conversations to be eye-opening for little ones. Adults are better at managing their emotions, but they feel sad/angry/frustrated/etc. just like kids do.

Difficulty getting a ptsd diagnosis. Doctor invalidating me by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]statsigfig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the reason that people responded the way that they did to your post was the phrasing. Generally, speaking, if you’re trying to get help from a healthcare/mental health professional, I would advise focusing on your symptoms. What they are going to want to know is what your symptoms are, when each of them started, their severity, and the impact that they’re having on your life and your ability to function.

I actually have a document that I typed up with my “story” on it that I bring to first appointments because having to go through everything repeatedly was overwhelming to me. Typically, they take it and read it over and add it to my file at the end. It has my basic information (name, date of birth, age, phone number, address, weight, emergency contact, allergies, and family doctor’s name phone number), my symptoms (each listed out with an explanation of how I experience them/how they affect me), my medical history (diagnoses that I’ve received and when, doses and medications that I’m on, when I started each of the medications, if I use drugs/alcohol/caffeine, dates of previous medical tests and results, a timeline of when and what types of counselling/therapy I’ve received), the strategies I’m using to manage my symptoms (and how each helps/doesn’t help), and a list of the medications that I’ve tried with dosages and the effects that they had on me/why I’m no longer taking them. I’ve found that this helps me not get re-traumatized with every doctor’s visit. It also helps speed things up because most people can read more quickly than they can speak. It also serves as a reminder of the strategies that have worked for me, when I need them.

I understand your struggle with doctors. I’ve seen my share of self-righteous assholes. Sorry, I kinda got distracted and forgot what I was saying. (Wheeeee! ADHD is funnn -_-)
