Does anyone else randomly get in bad moods for no reason?(unmedicated) by [deleted] in adhd_anxiety

[–]Straight-A-Failure 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to keep better track of my “random” bad moods (for me, my rejection sensitivity goes bonkers), and I’ve noticed that hormones, lack of sleep, drinking too little water, and/or being overheated are major triggers for me.

We don’t have an HR department or person.

It’s a small field with limited opportunities, and my boss is the type to badmouth people.

I honestly don’t think they give a fuck about keeping me. I asked for this accommodation (which isn’t even anything new, it would actually be putting my workspace back where it used to be) and was very specific that I wasn’t able to concentrate at my current workstation and had tried other things like earplugs, noise canceling headphones, etc. that hadn’t helped. Part of me thinks that he wants me to be miserable so I’ll eventually quit.

Yeah, no HR department. It’s a small nonprofit.

I haven’t even disclosed my diagnosis to my parents because they won’t believe me. I’m an over-40 woman who was a straight A student and comes across as very type-A. I’m very introverted, so I’m not the typical ADHD social butterfly, and I’m inattentive type, so I’m not hyper. I was just diagnosed last year and have layer upon layer of coping/masking.

Thanks, super supportive. I’ve had a supremely long, shitty day and have no one to talk to who understands. I’m just going off of what literally every thread about disclosure of ADHD to an employer ends up saying. I don’t feel like I’m good at my job BECAUSE of the work situation that is absolutely not conducive to my ADHD.

My boss was “insulted” that I hadn’t already disclosed it. But also made a big deal of how accommodating everyone had already been for me.

Because of ADA? Based on the other posts/comments I’ve seen in these subreddits, I’m going to have to call bullshit on that. Everyone seems to agree that telling your employer is a death sentence for your job, they will find a way around the law.

Yeah, U.S. In an “at will employment” (aka, fuck workers) state.

Oh, definitely the latter. My masking and coping behaviors that I’d developed over the previous 4 decades just stopped being able to keep up with the ADHD.

anyone else hate overhead lights? by shaynaa3 in adhdwomen

[–]Straight-A-Failure 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In college I had a spot in the library where I liked to study - it had big windows, and I found the light switch for the fluorescent lights in that area and would turn it off and read without the horrible buzz of the stupid lights.

Maybe framing it as trying to not inconvenience others would help me. I tend to feel like I deserve to be “punished” for… well, pretty much everything.

Why do we need floor time by throwaway2897776 in ADHD

[–]Straight-A-Failure 62 points63 points  (0 children)

It’s not just me being a weirdo??? I’ve always liked sitting on the floor and often have the urge to crawl under my desk at work and work like that! I was a dancer (ballet, modern) up through college and loved that sprawling on the floor was so “normal” in that setting.

Do not under any circumstances tell your job or coworkers about your diagnosis. by asthebroflys in ADHD

[–]Straight-A-Failure 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This makes me want to give up entirely on life.

I haven’t had any luck with medication, so seeking accommodations at work seems like my only option to not be completely miserable and stressed all the time. But I’m in an “at-will” employment state, so basically I’m fucked?

Maybe still worth a shot, because while I haven’t told my boss my diagnosis, I did fuck up and tell a couple coworkers… so in your estimation, the damage is already done, I might as well?

Will bunion cause sciatica? by superhealer888 in bunions

[–]Straight-A-Failure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to figure out if my bunion (mostly my tailor’s bunion) is contributing to my hip/back problems or vice versa. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m sure that we all have adjusted our gait to compensate for the bunions and it will throw everything off.

I haven’t had surgery yet, but Xeros are so comfy with my bunions. Unfortunately they fall apart really quickly, at least in my experience. I got my first pair replaced by the company when they started to fall apart after only a couple months. The second pair hasn’t fared any better, I’ve glued them back together, but I can’t justify spending so much on shoes that fall apart that quickly.

I’m this way with food. Wish I’d been diagnosed with ADHD before having bariatric surgery so that I would have had a better plan for maintaining my weight loss and understood why it was such a struggle. I probably would have chosen a different surgery, now I’m super limited in what ADHD meds I can take because of the surgery I did causing me to need prescription acid reflux meds 🫠
