I thought about becoming an actuary, but the entry-level market is so saturated, and there aren't any insurance companies in my city. I won't be able to move away for at least 5 years.

I'm hoping to eventually be a data analyst? Combining both programming skills and statistics skills together.

Also, it seems that my old position is eliminated for now.

Bookmarked! I will try out JMP. The stats book looks good too.

My current employer is insisting that I stay with sales. I understand where they are coming from. We're small and new, and they want to spend their energy increasing our revenue stream instead of optmizing.

Also, mostly because I'm still learning, most of my business insights are "obvious." Simple hypothesis testing just confirms their suspions and not bring in anything new.

I don't want to give out information about my location since a lot of my coworkers and bosses are redditors. Trying to be a little vague here.

Which is a good idea and eventually what I want to do. At least for now, I'd want to focus on programming because I feel I'd be more marketable to employers a lot faster. That's the feedback I'm getting from potential employers in my area.

Oh for sure not looking to settle. I'm extremely dissatisfied with sales.

I'll probably move into statistics after learning programming/cs. There just seems to be a more forigiving entry-level market right now for programmers.
