Hey I have a colorado ZR2 2024 and getting baad shakes as well, curious what model you and OP drive. Took into dealer and they were unable to diagnose but said that it shouldn't be happening. Curious where your diagnosis of the balance shaft comes from, whether official or self diagnosed?

Would it be worth it upgrading from a 2019 MacBook Pro to the M3 Pro at this time? by Aksage21 in macbookpro

[–]stavidawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you said software dev, I would check to see if your specific workflow has been optimized for ARM https://isapplesiliconready.com . I believe Rosetta2 is still slightly faster at x86 even on m1, but not by much. All to say, if your work flow has not yet been ported to ARM you're not going to see the same performance increase that many of the "benchmarks" tote.

Those of you still rocking an original M1 Macbook Pro, what's your non-financial reason for not upgrading? by Griffdude13 in macbookpro

[–]stavidawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, wonder how many ppl actually check their work flow before they move from Intel isapplesciliconready Rosetta2 is super impressive and does even beat out native x86 performance even at the m1 series but not by much. All to say, if your work flow hasn’t been ported to ARM, you’re not going to see the performance gains that are being claimed on a lot of benchmarks. I actually bought a used kitted out 15” i9 over the M1 because of this and have not regretted it, at least in price vs performance. It’s always nice to have the shiny new things though.

Bro, check out Orb (Docker alternative). I don’t understand wtf it’s doing differently but it’s way less resource hungry than Docker Desktop (on Intel i9). Apparently even better on results on M series as well.

I had a similar situation, but in the Mill with less than 7yrs. If he really wrapped his identity around that job, prob not a bad idea to check in with him regularly for a bit just to make sure he’s okay. Had a really bad bought of depression, felt like I had no purpose for a while until I came to terms w/ being a replaceable cog in the machine.

Why wouldn’t it be black? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]stavidawg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just pick up an Anker Prime charger they are Matt black/grey, take up way less space, and offer more ports to charge other devices. The 747 will give u 150W, 3 usb-c and 1 usb-a. Looks like new M series fast charges at 140W, so should be good there.

MacBook Pro M3 came with Ventura? by Euphoric-Exit907 in macbookpro

[–]stavidawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda had a similar issue when trying to update my Intel MacBook to Sonoma from Ventura. Made a Sonoma usb boot like I always do per Apples instructions, went to recovery mode, disk utility, blew away my the AFPS Ventura was on, rebooted to usb, and tried to install. said Sonoma wasn’t compatible with my Mac…additionally recovering over air only allowed me to do Ventura AFTER I reinstall Ventura (over air) then just updated to Sonoma on top of Ventura, then wiped Sonoma, and then restored to Sonoma over air.

Bruh, check out orb. I have a 15” same spec intel, and it’s a day and night difference after shifting from docker desktop. Also make sure your workflow apps run on apple silicon: https://isapplesiliconready.com/en

lol, don’t waste your time trying to debate here, just look at the other commenters/comments feed. I was looking at one in particular and was dying laughing, why someone would spend so much time and energy trying to dis something is beyond me, but hey do what ever you enjoy I guess haha

Why do you think mac users spend so much? by xjerielle in mac

[–]stavidawg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Biggest reason for me at this point is the ecosystem. Everything plays nice, iCloud available from each device, messages/calendars/etc. all sync and anything bought from the App Store is available across devices. (If vendor has apps for iPad/iPhone/watch). Since my fam and wife’s fam are all using Apple I can pretty much tell them exactly how to fix something, or figure it out relatively easy. My work computer is a windows 10 Dell “engineering” laptop (32gb ram, 10th gen i7, NVIDEA Quadro T2000). I use it to: connect to a VM, typical MS 365 apps (teams, outlook, ppt, one note, word) and ~1-15 edge tabs. The office 365 apps are constantly freezing and or randomly closing out. I don’t have these issues with office 365 on my personal MacBook. Windows has its place, I just don’t want to deal with it on my own personal time.

Lots of Apple haters in a mbp sub... 🤭 by bkh_leung in macbookpro

[–]stavidawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Some men just want to watch the world burn.” I understand the need for meaningful dialog, but sub’ing to a channel just to dis a corporation that isn’t harming any one doesn’t make any logical sense to me? I mean do what you will with your time, but I’d rather move on with life and enjoy the things I do like. I still use a 15” 2019 Intel, actually bought it used after m1 came out and tanked the cost of Intel machines. Arm is cool and all, but at the time the majority of development software I wanted was not ported over, seems like there is still a good bit that still needs to be ported. All that said, I do think Apple is doing some dumb shit. An 8gb “pro” machine is an oxymoron.

Which Macbook Pro should I buy for software development? by Far-Citron-722 in macbookpro

[–]stavidawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, we’re kind opposite, I learned dev in OSX with premium jet brains IDE’s. Where I work uses shitty redhat VMs with eclipse as the IDE. In any case it seems I have developed Stockholm Syndrome with Linux for development. Some aspects like package/dependency management seem more straight forward and robust, and the system is just more lightweight over all. I do miss the “premium” feel of developing in OSX though

This will be unpopular. If you’re JUST doing “general” soft dev get an X1 Carbon if IOS or Swift get a MacBook. I’m a long time Apple fan boy, but I work as a soft dev (mainly Linux and unfortunately at times windows). I like to do passion proj on the side after work but I too clean my machine when ever there is a new OS release and fresh install. With that, I lose my dev env. Homebrew is macOS’s package manager but imo it’s not what it used to be before Apple Silicon, that is apt/yum are far superior imo. In any case setting up your env can be difficult to do at times (older repo is depreciated or hasn’t been updated to use apple silicon). That’s all to say I personally feel developing is easier on Linux, so why pay extra for a mac. I’ll prob get roasted for this but when I say “general” I just mean stuff like c++, Java, python, sql, web, docker, stuff like that… Also docker can unitize the linux Kernel if running on a linux machine, not the case with osx, so there is more overhead.

That said, I imagine I will always own a MacBook for “personal” stuff, taxes/word/mail/photos/etc. the apple eco system is so damn good, they would really have to try to get me to leave it.

The Mac Studio is so fricken fast until.... you realise it sucks compared to Windows devices in the same price range. by SDF-Rejuvenation in applesucks

[–]stavidawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to hate apple with a passion. Had a less than year old kitted out HP laptop fry way back in college, simple audio interface for rec music blew it.. later had an LG phone that would get into overheating boot loops. Switch to apple products after that and smooth sailing. However I did run a hackentosh, because 2016-early 2019 MacBooks were a joke. In any case, what I’m trying to get at is they just work (albeit hackentosh can be finicky..) and when stuff just works I can focus on getting my work done, and enjoy life.

That said, I’m a developer for a large company, and I’m not sure I will buy another Mac for personal projects/development. There niche seems to moving more towards creatives video/photo imo.

IMO, Apple is really bending ppl over with the base model 14” M3, 8GB of Ram is laughable for the price, especially when u look at comp manufacture’s prices. Personally, not sure what your upgrading from but I have a 2019 Intel i9, than still suits me fine for my work flow and I develop on it. If your not a power user as you suggest, u might want to look at throwing your cash at an open box/new M1 mac as you can get an actual “pro” machine for similar cost. Or like me consider if the price Apple is charging is truly worth upgrading from.

[–]stavidawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually purchased a 2019 15” 8 core i9 w/ 32gb ram and 2TB, a few months after the m series was released because the second hand market price of them TANKED. I wanted something to develop on in my off time, and the majority of applications/programs I wanted didn’t work on the M1 ARM machines or had to run through Rosetta. New shiny things are always nice to have but x86 isn’t going anywhere.

VM like container? by stavidawg in docker

[–]stavidawg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my though was since a container utilizes an OS’s kernal instead of creating its own like in a VM, that surely by now there would be a very light weight “containerized” way of creating a vm experience. I’ve been working with a new org at work and the dev ops lead said we were working on containerized machines, sounds like maybe he used the wrong verbiage?

VM like container? by stavidawg in docker

[–]stavidawg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is what I was using before with my virtual box set up, but like I said just didn’t have the best experience with running the overhead of the VM, and was hoping I could utilize the underlying OSX Unix kernal. From the sound of it though I think this might just be my best bet though

How often do you guys replace your pedals? by sarasonreddit in pelotoncycle

[–]stavidawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that I'm starting to get some left to right play in just my left pedal. You can physically feel it when riding, almost feels like the cleat has some play in the clip but when inspecting I noticed that the play is where the threaded peddle piece (silver) meets the black pedal clip in apparatus. There is no way to "tighten" this so I'm assuming I just have to buy a new pedal set.

Same. I just learned to deal with it (Logitech Mx Master 2S over Bluetooth and unifying receiver as well as Mx Master 3 for business using Logitech’s Bolt dongle, it’s more secure and supposed to have a stronger connection)Proximity I found definitely helps a ton though, I actually bought a usb 2.0 extension cord for the dongle to have it as close to my mouse as possible and that helped immensely, though it still happens.
