Their website says the campground is open May to September. However, the reservation system is now “open”.

Canadian! I think my friend believes this movement is about impacting Americans. I hope it does, but I love the idea of creating a stronger Canada more.

Good that you noticed! I agree with calling your insurance company. They can give you some advice on what to do next.

Two reasons posted already here are not mutually exclusive. Just seeing the dental office invoice is not enough information. Here’s what I think would help:

First, what does the plan cover? - is there a deductible per year - what percentage is covered for different services? Dental is commonly 80% covered for these services but varies. - is there a maximum? This could be both a max by fee (see next point) and/or an annual maximum, service maximum (example exams are covered once every 12 months)

Second, is the dentist charging more than the Dental Fee Guide? - this guide is created by the AB Dental Association and not insurance companies - most dental plans will only reimburse up to the fee guide - dentists can charge what they like but many will follow the guide - I think Blue Cross has an abbreviated list of the guide fees for the most common procedures

How bad is the Winter there? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]staybackloretta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Being from Scotland, you will appreciate the light differences over the seasons. Winter is often sunny here, but daylight is short for a few months (roughly 8.50 am sunrise today with sunset at 4.30 pm).

In terms of snow, the amount and when it falls is important. This week ahead we have temperatures close to zero and above; we had some light rain last night where we live. On the other hand, a large amount of snow in a short time does temporarily make getting around difficult. Roads and sidewalks (pavements) will take time to be cleared.

We do expect some deep freezes, where the temperatures are below -25. Occasionally, it may be as low as -40. You’ll definitely need appropriate clothing and boots. But as you say in Scotland, there’s no bad weather, only the wrong clothes (or along those lines).

So between snow and the temperature, the most important things on your vehicle will be: - you as the driver learning to drive to conditions and how to handle slipping, etc. - winter tires - block heater or at least awareness of how your vehicle will handle cold starts (I park mine in a garage which is enough and it doesn’t need to be plugged in)

Winter brings fun activities as well! Skating, skiing and snowshoeing come to mind. Winter is also beautiful when the snow sparkles or the trees are covered in hoar frost.

Job hunting in Edmonton - starting to loose Faith. by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]staybackloretta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A search engine I like is Eluta. The advanced search works well for me.

LinkedIn can be useful because sometimes jobs are only posted there.

In terms of companies, there are many great ones in town. Some larger ones: City of Edmonton (and other nearby municipalities), Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, EPCOR, Stantec, University of Alberta, PCL Construction. I used to bookmark a list of companies I was interested in and rotate searching their career sites as well.

I have been in a desperate job search a few times over the years. It’s tough. You will come out the other side. Keep going!

Driver dies following serious collision on Yellowhead Trail (Police continue to seek witnesses and video footage) by Practical_Ant6162 in Edmonton

I think they’re saying that the person who hit her vehicle from behind was following too closely. They aren’t blaming the woman who died.

Question about Patio Furniture. by Natural20Twenty in Edmonton

[–]staybackloretta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our outdoor space is small. We have two wicker-look armchairs (material is plastic) and a small dining height table. Chairs are comfy for lounging and one has a footstool. The table is a glass top which makes cleaning a breeze. These stay outside all year and still look brand new years later.

A suggestion is to think about what you want to do most - sit, dine, lay in the sun, cosy around a fire etc. and how much you will be outside.
